They'll get damaged eventually unless they are already chipped. Plus its slightly embarrassing at the lights when your poor VL is ticking away madly at idle!

its all good, because the tickety lifter noise is drowned out by the knocking gearbox, but when the lights go green, all they hear is exhaust noise as i take off past them all

When I remved the clips I got a small plastic bag like you put fruit and veg in and put the lifter inside while I removed the clip, it then just hits the plastic bag when you pop it out and you dont lose them

With the bolts just make sure you only hand tighten then once they are all done to hand tightness use the torque wrench.

to revive this old thread again. i had the noisy lifters constantly like other people said they had. i cbf changing them and got told it was too difficult to clean them before i knew much about them... i tried some lifter cleaner/quietening stuff from bersons... didnt do crap, so i got recommended this oil additive called pro-ma mbl8. i followed the instructions and have never heard my lifters again.. makes my injectors sound loud now by comparison. i seriously couldn't believe it.. has to be bought on the interwebs cost me $32 delivered and is enough for two oil changes. the best cheap thing i have bought for my car yet!

Good article this one!

I just pulled apart one of my lifters off the spare head that i have that will be recoed and theyre not so dirty, but may aswell pull them all apart now

dunno why so many people loose the clips, use a right angled pick next time with your thumb over the clip lol

Bit of a thread rivial:
How do I know if the lifter is bad and cannot be cleaned and returned to service? They are so simple I gather it comes down to clearances between the "piston" and the lifter body. Am I right assuming this. What should they be when measured with vernier calipers?

I've got them all out and have cleaned them and trying to bleed them in a tub of oil but they are not getting harder to push down.
