Had the Precision Hypa pistons in it, same as JETR31...We were using Turbo Tunes 4wd dyno, the guy that fitted my Haltech many years ago was doing the tuning, he's worked for DAT Racing, REVS, RPM and tuned heaps of cars..
Bottom end prolly had around 10000kms on it max, Allans built it Corran and he says he has used these pistons in circuit cars with no problems he reckons...Adam was a bit sus on why it did No.4 again as this is the piston that was melted with the original setup (standard inlet, Hiflow etc)
I'll get a copy of the last run up, it made slightly more the run before but this is the one I asked for...

Whoops thats huge!!! Lol. Why is there a trough right up top?

yeah he has talked about these pistons to me for my circuit car.
Are you running the same injectors as the first motor? cos it seems strange to do the same cylinder
It's rich as fk up top. so should of been nice n cool. similiar to mine

did you get any torque figures

Same injectors as always, Adam flowed them when he built the motor. Ive had them out and moved around when I put the plenum on etc (I painted the rail) so its highly unlikely that the same injector went back in the same place...It still runs the factory dizzy so is highly unlikely that No.4 isnt receiving the same ignition curve as the rest of them (another one of Adams theories). Clinton (tuner) and Evan seem to think the factory zorst manifold could be causing restriction and extra heat blah blah blah.
Dunno man im at a loss. Worried if I throw another piston in it will just happen again.
One thing though I did have about 30 litres of BP Ultimate in it but then I put about 40 litres of Vortex in it, I thought that was still around 97-98 octane?
Any one have any thoughts on that hole up top? Where it falls away?

if ur a/f ratios were conservative/safe/rich then its highly unlikely that vortex, being slightly lesser quality to ultimate, would cause that.

sounds to me like it wiring/ignition on no.4. it would have been running on 5 cyl up top leaning out that cylinder givin it that flat spot up top.
it's not a manifold issue otherwise mine would have done it.

thats my thoughts anyway

I have hearda couple of roumours that those pistons had a problem of the ring gaps closing up and pinching the rings, causing broken ringlands... Dont know how true the romour is.

Interesting you should say that because when we inspected the bores a couple of the other cylinders had vertical marks in the bores and it was mentioned that it may have been from lack of end gap...Can you get anymore info sky30?

From memory it had something to do with the high sillicon content in the pistons causing the ring gaps to close under high boost/ high heat conditions.

I got told not to use them in a high horsepower turbo motor.
