OVL087, thats incredible howd you get the sorta faded two toe effect?
Ill respray my rocker cover now ive read this.. the wrinkly red paint has chiipped off!
Im probably just gonna rub it back and get it all smoothed out with red on top and silver on bottom!

What paint is the best for rocker covers?
Do they get hot?

BeeJay yes the rocker covers do get hot, you should use "Wrinkle Paint" and the colour is Red, it is made by VHT, you can pick it up at most RiceBarn's, I prefer the one colour (The stock red) on the rocker cover rather than the two tone...But the two tone does look good Andy...I'd just like to put in a good word for my little-bro Roy who gave me a fair bit of help and took the pictures.

Cheers for comments,
Antho...

And yeah BeeJay a toothbrush would probably work well I never thought of that just use the paint stripper to soften it up first. Or as somebody else said the spray on paint srtripper would probably work better but I had the paint stripper sitting around so i just used that.

i just did this to mine too, didnt realise someone had posted an article already! good work.

just thought i'd add one tip - put the paint stripper on quite generously and let it sit for 5-10 mins. you'll see the old paint start to bubble. i then use a high pressure hose (they only cost about $70 and are very useful for cleaning things) and just blasted it.. no messing around with scrapers or anything!!

in fact it came off so easily i could have just used the pressure i get from the garden hose if i used the focussed beam spray that those multi spray attachments have.

also i tried the spray on stripper first but the damn can kept clogging up, and in the end i coudlnt even push the nozzle down, was a waste of money! i hope it was just a faulty can!

Lookin good guys. Andy your 2 tone looks good too. I did mine in red to match my car. The flash makes it look orange, but it's not. It's None turbo but I liked the red, it brightens up the engine bay. Now I've got 4 of the suckers lying around I'm going to play with a few different designs.

Bextor84: When we checked out RiceBarn i think they come in basic colours made by VHT, but i'm sure there are alot of other brands out there that make heatproof paint, but they may not be wrinkle type..VHT make White, Red and Grey or Black..The red does look rather good considering it is the stock turbo cover but if you have an n/a painting the cover red would look bit stupid if people knew why they were originally painted red,

Roy...

Bextor the wrinkle paint only come in Red, Grey and Black.

A few people have mentioned they blew off the paint stripper with a compressor or hose. The reason I didn't do this was beause most paint stripper burns your skin and will eat away at anything you blow it off onto. So I wouldn't recommend it unless you are doing it away from anything you don't want to get ruined. And the paint stripper doesn't work very well if the surface is wet so you should avoid using the hose. But whatever way works best for you.

It burns to the **** house and you run the risk of getting it on your car, skin etc etc...Use atleast 2 sets of normall rubber gloves just to be careful of getting it on your hands, have a hose near by for if you get it on you.

Cheers guys.. The red looks good but I'm tempted to try a different colour.

I might try the local paint shop cause I know the guy, see if he can mix me up a few pressure packs of a custom wrinkle colour.. Cause I'm keen on maroon.

Won't be n/a for long though Even though I don't give a **** if people said, your rocker covers red and your cars not turbo... Hmmm
