Modified VL's are quite a love-hate thing! If you want to have something much less likely to piss you off at times keep it stock lol. But if you do want to mod it, I'd keep it simple.

If you plan to do a fairly intense build I'd buy something that already has a cooler and exhaust or whatever, something that's already been altered so you don't feel bad.

The money you save by keeping the original numbers driveline will be money will be money in the bank. (if you go to sell). kid of like a Pre-nup

And I know a lot of people will say they will never sell up but if thats the case its even more wise to do this as it will double or triple in value.

way I see it.

Nice vl sounds like its in good hands.

A car with a motor and driveline that has different k's to the body is not going to be worth that much at all. And as hard to find as an all original VLCT is, it will be a long time before it doubles, or triples in value and makes you a bit of coin.

I really like the car, but the fact that it's all original (to me) just means you've got the best base for a cool project! Bring on the glide, motor, and more pics like MUS said!

The cars that have sky rocketed are not that much older than vls are.
(But small chips as cars are a slow growth, risky and give little in terms of return).
Also in more modern times the internet gives the impression that they are every where.

good chat

make this a massive sleeper low mount 35 40 internally gated have the dummy exhaust tip etc etc black front mount
leave it looking exactly how it is externally with really only cooler piping in the place of the cross over pipe being the only difference

All very true,But and it is a massive But! An original example in good/great condition is always sort after(and for good coin)Yes a modded one may go for good coin,But is it really that good with the amount that has been spent on it.
Look at the comments on this car,And what the comment are for(For being a clean original car)
Saying that his car and he can do as he see fit.

Cheers Marty
ps that was my 2 cents worth

Love the feedback guys but I'll explain what I think lol...

I'll never sell this vehicle so I ain't looking to make money nor do I see it as a investment etc I understand original calais turbo's are very rare to come by these days especially ones that haven't been tampered with obviously but what I was thinking of doing was to keep the vehicle in its original condition on the exterior & interior but was to remove the standard motor and running gear and was to build a hamburger with the lot motor for it and to put a Trimatic behind it & enjoy driving the car with a heap of power while retaining the original look (obviously I would get a cooler made which wouldn't require any hole cutting into the body & If I ever wanted to go back to standard The original motor and trans would be right there for me to put back in! Thoughts guys?

Personally I cant see the excitement of having a stock VL sitting in the garage hoping for it to go up in value.
I agree with you 100%

New DBA T2 slotted discs were installed front & rear with new wheel bearings along side some bendix Heavyduty pads all round. i thought id spice up the interior while still keeping the original look with a Genuine Walkinshaw steering wheel but i will obviously keep the standard wheel as a spare! The calais also recieved a set of kingsprings Low's all round!

Pics below..

Me for my car I enjoy it as it is.But as you say what would be the point of owning a car that you do not enjoy. If you can turn it back to as she should be, Go with it and enjoy.

Cheers Marty
ps thought was an HDT steering wheel from the VL GPA with a different horn pad should be the the Ghibli with V36 on the back(unsure for the code for the walky)

Use Mothers fabric cleaner,With a white cloth.Change cloth as it gets dirty.
The fabric on the VLs is synthetic and cleans quite well as it does not absorb into the fibres. Will come up as new.

Cheers Marty
ps do not use a steam device as it will harm the material

Good reply's
I like to provoke a bit of thought.
I know it just another Calais but i feel i have to do my bit for the love of originality and encourage people to think before modifying a clean example.

Original vls will go up in value but buy how much is any ones guess, judging by the members of this site i for one would give my left nugget to secure one of the last nice ones out there.
there not rare...yet

Love the car.
ill spectate
