Not a fan of GTS's I'm selling them for $500. Just trying to work out how to spray the lower calais plastics door plates.

So many opinions with no one really having a clue. They all have factory paint that I wet rubbed with 600, i have rub through (scratch etc)

I'll 400 all plastics again, prepsol them, prime them, rub the primer back with 600 lightly, then prepsol them again, hope they don't smudge, and paint.

Using cans: solid alpine made up pressure packs, and repco bumper primer.

Should come up ok.

So paint... 2 jack stands, some wire and water strait out the hose n I had my own little booth. I primed any bare metal n plastic, rubbed every painted surface with 400 and got to work.
Bought the paint (alpine white) spray cans off eBay. Amazing gear, the fan and finish are both brilliant or it's just me lol but I've worked with some dodgy paint cans and paint before.

Overspray rocks my little she'd looks like I'm splashing round in a coke addicts wet dream. On that note I was fully PPE'd up.

Any way pics!!

Plan to have both rear quarters done by tomorrow night.

The only bit o crap in the paint; whore island.

---------- Post added 18-06-14 at 18:39 ----------

Rear quarter: of the 400ml can ($38) used about 350 ml's on the face and 50 ml's cutting . Total cos per panel $65.
1st coat

2nd coat

Not the cheapest way to buy paint per ml but for the simplicity and no overheads it's a quite impressive result in the end. Remembering that it's a home build and for fun.

Looks like it'll have a good finish mate! How's it matched compared to the rest of car?

The Aerosol king, wish you had taped up the strut tops and nuts.
Wish you had done the interior plastics in original, these are thirty year old classics.
Looks as if you are enjoying yourself and is better than it was, good luck with it.

The match is quite acceptable.
But I'm working with what I can get n up here it's not easy.
The boot is from Perth (1500 ks south), the door is factory, the bar has been re sprayed in the past and I sprayed under the rear window panel with a VHT white.

But it's all pretty close - take that and the fact it's sunny 340 days of every year and it's white you can't tell... To busy trying to protect your retinas from permanent damage.

I'm betting my self I can pull it off haha

I have all respect for originality and I'm not a fan of sprayed interiors, but a miss-matched interior is uglier than a respray one. I do have plans for a beige interior.

Nothing special about plastic VL dashes their all the same any way only the colour varies.

It's all a work in progress, the engine bay will be getting a respray.
The strut tops of a commodore are nothing sexy to begin with in my opinion and are the reason why I plan to get some flat plate covers (not domes) when the price comes down. To cover them up.

No dressy stuff for the sake of it, makes an engine bay look takie IMO. Don't want to much standing out.
A few hoses, An engine and Some paint. Perfect

Let me guess you moved to Greenland for a cool change?

It's still a beautiful place and..

It rained the other day! I know shocking!

And what's more it really didn't agree with the fresh paint on my outside uncovered undercover pride n joy... So I will try to rub it back n try again.

Both guards were in the back yard hanging on chairs, and suffered very little in comparison, all that sun did them good.

On a dry note I'm picking up a nice set of VE pentagons with good tyres (one new) on Thursday for a grand! (Guys said he'd buy some new ones (4,000) if I bought his old ones, after he just payed 14,000 to have it resprayed factory green Ss ute) Can't go wrong!

Sold the VE HSV's for $600 n made $100 lol it's the little wins.
Pics up soon.

K so paint calmed Dow a bit and is looking ten times better.

Bought these of a good bloke up here for a 1,000, after posting an add on buy-sell-swap for VE Ssv mags,
I think there pentagons, any way my favourite wheels with the added bonus of having 2 new tyres on the front @ $350 each and the rears sitting nicely on 70%.
Will get then bored out and whack them on within the month.

After removing the rear bar LE lip there was a fat black line...gave it a few coats

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 16:05 ----------

New steering wheel and alarm fitted with push button start, Didn't like having only one remote and the wiring was crap! all black wire but it was spliced into coloured lol,
It was good fun wacked a little 6 blade fuse holder in there to.

So... turn the key - flip the ignition - and push the start button "Basically"

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 16:55 ----------

Fuse box moved to glove box, first attempt at doing something like this and it went well, few thing I would do differently looking back.

My plan was to hang it nice and neat but due to the installation of the new rail and subsequent wiring - that all went out the window.

Retained all the factory a/c gear and,
gauges fitted running temp is 78-83 on 40 degree days.

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 17:29 ----------

Swapped the pentagons for these mint SSV's less than 10kms on the front 2 and rears are at 90% unfortunately the rears are 245/40s.

and fitted some new upper control arms fitted

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 17:31 ----------

Painted the straps.

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 17:36 ----------

New carpet cut and fitted to boot along with sound system, head unit and amp gain control.

removed all the tow pack assembly, trailer wiring and fixed rust. I had to cut a 6cm square piece out of the rear end to get the tongue bracket out.

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 17:41 ----------

Random engine bay shots.

Yes it has an SL grill but I can afford to wait for cheap good condition Calais one to come along. cant wait to take it out some nice locations for a proper shoot.\

$1000 camera so taking pics with my phone makes me sad. see how these dodgy panoramic's came out lol

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 17:48 ----------

Window surrounds painted black

---------- Post added 12-11-14 at 18:02 ----------

Paint work. needs a light sand to feather the edges. colour match is excellent. will fix up the hole down the track.

Quick pic before I painted and cleaned up the under sides

Thanks guys yeah came up well with the cans solid alpine whit code: 1J052 only draw back is it has no hardiner in it so it takes months to set up here's it's not so bad. If it was cheap I'd whack it in a booth for a good bake.

I'll get some better pics up when I get the slave sorted.
Got 4 of them ATM new one that broke, the old 22.mm still good and a new 19 and 22 mm plus a lot of tent pegs, so ones gotta work lol.

Next mission is to cut that exhaust down and fit the 3 inch tip and fit the wheels
Shops up here want $180 per wheel to machine the centres!

So I'm researching maybe a special drill bit or something to get the centres bang on.

panhard rod.
Ebay have them for $70 but I'm thinking go with a brand and lash out on the $80 number.

I'll paint the alloy plate in the bay and touch up the bay a little.

Haha

Well after having trouble disengaging the clutch from the beginning.. I committed to the following:
I bought a new 1,300 kg clutch (Xtreme). $480
N/A fly wheel and starter sandwich plt. $280
New privet ball.
And payed the cheapest mechanic in town 700 to fit it
He then had issues so I gave the go ahead to buy
Custom master and new slave $260

Got it back and it was ok. For a week.

Then it stopped disengaging and blew a slave... So I bought 2 more new slaves (19-22mm)

Fitted one today and noticed this! With a total of $1,760 spent. So far no job and starting a business... Bad times

Up The Date!

Ill try to keep this one positive

There was a big NW car club meet up planned for the 22 of feb. So I had my dead line.

Good old Karratha weather is sitting on 45 most day and hit 50 degrees at one point... it was like being re-bourn every time I slid from underneath the car..

Fitted the 3" intercooler kit but not touching the boost till I get an electronic boost controller. runs fine though. had to replace a ton of hoses but it was good because im not a fan of blue hosing any way.

Only had to cut 1 hole in the body for the pipe coming from the turbo. I also cut that pipe in half and used a 3 inch joiner to get the length. pic will do a better job at describing it.
not a bad kit for $250 plus a few hoses and some stronger old joiners I had lying around.
Used the Xover lines and just bent the bracket to line up with the bracket, because why use zipties.

Box
Well fork split.... on inspection I could unscrew the pivot ball by hand.

Dropped the MX7 and found an awesome surprise along with a few lose bolts.

The mechanic had not replaced the Spigot bush so it was running something like a v8 bush for god knows how long with a huge internal diameter!
Dye grinder made short work of it.

Then a mate (Joel) who was helping me put the box back in found that the shaft play on the MX7 was insane. I informed him that the syncros in 2nd and 3rd are on the way out and he suggested I not use the box..

Ok so I need a box and I was not keen on using that clutch again

I decided to play it safe and bought a New Xtreme HD clutch.
Clutch differences

Joel had a spare R33 Box in a donor car he picked up for a slab haha
So I gave him $800 (a good price for a 33 box) and a few day later it was in the vl...
After a wash in the barrow

Forks are the same bearing carriers are different

800 gram tin of tomatos and a good rag block the hole up perfectly, Just like mumma use to make!

the day before the cruise
Well the mx7 sandwich plate was still fitted along with the 33 box meaning I couldn't install the starter motor. so I was faced with 2 options
Drop the box (**** that) or,
cut, file, bend, dye grind and vice grip the outer lip.
Well it was fun and I ended up buying a little dye grinder cutting wheel set.
laughed when I heard the little wheel pull more RPMs than the RB30

Got it off after about 9 hours and used washers to replicate the sandwich plate under the starter bolts.

then wacked the N/A starter motor on it... Nothing, wouldn't start. whecked all the wiring.. nothing. starter was ****ed.

Did some research and found I could use the mx7 starter so I did. worked perfectly.
Side note: the car was originally running a 9.5 inch flywheel with MX7 box and starter: not ideal.

The morning of the cruise bleed the clutch and took it for its first drive in months and cant believe how good the 33box is! adjusted the clutch pedal back in line with the accelerator and it ran great.

Just in time for the northwest car club cruise at 11am.

---------- Post added 24-02-15 at 20:11 ----------

Traded the VTss ****ters for a full set stockies with new tread, gave them a paint with some silver anti rust (for fares or lightly rusted surfaces)

canter caps were $50 off eBay.

suits the car way better.

pics up soon.

I'm a huge fan the original blackouts. But because an LE rear spoiler had be fitted when I got it the black outs where huge.

ill be putting skirts on and re doing all the blackouts.

Not sure what I want to do with the body just yet it has a few small dents here and there. maybe oneday ill fork out for a respray. but happy with the paint as its still in pretty good nick. no dry spots.

Cooler kit info
I bought the cooler kit off ebay. Clamps piping and hoses for 250 free postage.

But because it was off ebay not much fitted. meaning I had to buy 3" x 3" silicone joiners x 2 to make up for the misalignment in the piping and an adaptor for the T/B.

clamps were pretty **** (did up ok but if you undid them the bolts would roll in the clamp..

I just kept my eye out and waited for one to come along cheap. My budget was pretty limited on the cooler side of things as I already payed a guy 300 for a kit that he never sent.

I originally ordered a 2.5 kit but they sent a 3" kit instead lol came up ok.

Eventually it may go on a set of Calais wheels when the skirts go on and the black outs are applied.

I'm not a fan of the VT SS mags, its the little bits in between the 5 spokes that ruin it for me. They would look pretty damn good without them as a five spoke star rim.

Thanks MUS you of all people know what it takes to bring a car to life.

I think I may have this one for a while as iv restored over 80% of the car.

The body needs a straiten out for sure but that will come with more time motivation and cash put aside.

At the moment If I was to respray it I would be looking at replacing.
1 door
2 front quarter panels (rust lower half)
Any colour vl panel would suffice as it would get painted

Some 5 good little impressions.
Any rust around front screen.

Would like to go morning blue over asteroid silver. with a little pearl violate and silver.

Short shifter will arrive any day now so I can re fit the centre console.

Other things it could do with:
check straps.
Auto door light spring switches
fix electric mirrors/wiring
Paint engine bay again with alpine white
Plastic for left front windscreen.
fit side skirts and Calais black line detailing
Maybe Calais wheels of ve super sports 20"
S2 cluster
New door cards.
Jack
fit horn to front bar
New tail shaft centre bearing
3" turbo to cat
new muffler and fit 3inch dump.
Paint booster and clean up all wiring in that area
electronic boost controller.

Just looking for another job. so focus is on err more important things??
