I think C4C needs to move away from the suburbs that are near to the city if
those are the sort of numbers it's going to get. Obviously I don't think
anybody expected the insane turnout which is probably the main reason it
quickly became very disorganised.

It's good that most people were well behaved though, with numbers like that
anything could have happened. There were a few morons that stood out
though, like the P-plater in the sh*tbox silver 80's Datsun that kept flying
along behind people on Plenty Rd then kept having to slam the brakes on
to avoid hitting the car infront. Saw him do it a few times, slid through the
Settlement Rd intersection and nearly hit a Senator in front of him.

Just an idea but throwing it out there, next year, run it on a Saturday starting at
Caribbean Gardens (it's closed to the public on a Sat, so maybe see if they'll donate it)
it has plenty of room to fit 1000's of cars, it has two entrances, (one onto a 6 lane highway and one onto a 4 lane main road)

It's directly next to Eastlink so run the cruise onto Eastlink, straight onto the Monash and finish up at Lardner Park.
Get's it away from the inner suburbs, less traffic, straight run and both venues have the capacity.
Thanks heaps man.... i reckon thats a good idea aswel, it was way to packed to have god knows how many cars going through a 1 way tunnel either. Im just waiting for the next CT, ive only heard good things about it. Last one i went to was a few years ago when they met at chadstone and cruised upto Calder and had a mad track day there.. Plenty of cars and it was well organised

Great turnout but needs to be organized better. Wasn't fun waiting in the Latrobe University car park for 2 hours trying to get out and where was the actual cruise? Worst one if been to in all the years I've been going.

I got pulled over in Bundoora, was doing a u-turn and got a bit sideways as I was going around and a unmarked cop saw the whole thing and pull me over up the road, let me off with a warning.

Also looking forward to more CT cruise's Tab.

5ltrs are a 14-15 second car lol , unless they have undergone extensive work or are boosted

a vn cepta i can handle , as its a bt1 everyone will agreee .... but when i have gone to a couple cruises / meets of late , the ammount of vy-vz with white walls , stereos pumping is just sheer annoying , and dont get me started on air bags and the kids that own them thinking the a G-Units brother and lets be honest there the majority of hoons out there .... and spoil it for everyone , hense the hwy is off its head with cops now as they all hang out at the BP etc etc

i drive my car hardly ever as most of the boys that know me personally on here can back me up with ...... and when i have on a nice day i have been pulled over due to the fact these heaps of crap spoil the party for every one ... so no **** a copper is going to want to buckle any one in hes path

majority of people in this thread have posted comments about these type of cars , im pretty sure yourself and others on here when attending a cruise look more at the quality of car , and they dont fit majority of people criteria

anyways there no point on raving on , seems like everyone had a decent day even with the waiting etc , which is the main thing here

Yeah actually, it IS all about how many cars attend cruise for charity
Not so much the quality, unless the quality cars are prepared to pay 4 times the donation???
The entire point of the cruise for charity is to raise money for sick and dying kids, not to put on a motor Ex style show case of Australia's finest commodores, however, from what I saw, there was actually some of Australia's finest commodores there. Hats off to the Melbourne guys and girls for showing up and donating time and money for the car scene and sick kids. Its about every one, not even just commodore owners pulling together and putting their hands in their pockets to help some far less fortunate people. No one, should ever be excluded from an event like this based on what they drive, or what their modifying taste is to their own car.

I think a few people need to get over themselves, and how important they think they may be, or how good of a job they think they can do. I have personally witnessed the amount of work that goes into this event by people who, mostly do this as unpaid volunteers, or very very lowly paid contractors whos main concern is participant safety, and money raised for the kids.

I totally agree with people when they complain about the traffic, for the last 3 years I have only been able to have the vl on display as an ex feature car, which is cool, but means I cant cruise anymore. For sure the event has out grown any expectation from the organisers, even from year to year we see more and more cars turn up at the Melbourne event, making it the countries largest C4C!! I think this is something that shows the rest of Australia just how committed the Victorian commodore owners are and something we should all be very very proud of. However, it makes it incredibly difficult for the organisers to find a venue large enough, with a good enough supporting road system to support 3500 cars, which is realistically the amount of cars they have to accommodate now. Im sure if people had any brilliant ideas on locations for next years event, Liam would be more than happy to listen to the suggestions.

Its a great cause, and we always get a great turn out, but for some reason, Melbourne always has the most people complaining about something too. Its a bit of a shame it always seems to end this way. Like I said, im sure any helpful criticism would be greatly appreciated in regards to locations.

Oh nice, are you posting them up on YouTube or something like that? Wouldn't mind seeing some good footage from the cruise. I remember cruising next to you at the start through springvale and further down the track somewhere. Next cruise let me know and I will come down. We should get some pics of our cars together

bss308: yeh i was planning to put all my footage together and make a video of the day but it was hard to get videos when your not exactly driving, yeh we should do a shoot for sure, what area are you from? the best footage i got was from keyzy to bundoora, starting from the u-turn at the traffic lights

so yeh if anyone has taken any videos that include actually AT bundoora and inside the gates at the thunderdome that would be good, I've got footage from pre-meets, to bundoora and from bundoora to calder but none inside either of them.

overall i agree with you,

but my main point is, there is no point having 1000's of cars attending when they cant even enter the main meet to donate, there was hundreads of cars still waiting on plenty rd for hours only to be turned away from the main meet!! so wat sense does it make having big quantity of cars in the name of charity when they cant even donate and thats the purpose of the cruise???

thats my point it not how many cars you get but how well the organisers organise a cruise and meet point to accomdate for all the cars attending!! I also saw and talked to many people who were inside the carpark and did not even donate because they said the queue is too long!! so wats the point of having big numbers when there is no garantee that all of them will donate to charity?? my soloution to this is have a few lanes into the venue and collect money as they drive in as people are in a big queue anyway to get in!!! this way its garanteed each car that enters will donate 100% and it mite keep away the people who were not planning to donate away from this cruise and as a result it will show true numbers at these events!!

yes street commordores have done a good job (for the size and scale of the event) but you cant just run a event and let attendees suffer and cause disruption to inncoent citizens using those roads just because its for charity!!! (and a lot of them cannot even donate because organiser cant accomdate for so many cars) anyone can get big numbers on a cruise, but you must have a soultion to accomadate the numbers with the right meet points and roads!!! street commordores are well aware of the size of this event year to year and they know every year it gets bigger!! and they have one year to organise it!!

im a car event organiser myself for the last 10 years and i know how much effort is put in to organise a succesfull event and run it!!, all im saying more thought needs to go into next years event in respect to venue`s and roads bieng used and if numbers are getting to big maybe they should consider a show and shine for charity only somewhere out of the suburbs or run a cruise over 2 days, 2000 pre registered cars oner day and and the other 2000 cars the next day!!!

i recon make it a static car show and let everyone make their own premeets and roll in. that would be the way to go. police assistance walking through to do crowd control and move traffic.
no alchohol on site
donate to show and shine.

lets be honest the cruise bit is well and truly over now. its way too big so its just stop start now. static is the way ahead.

While I can see your point, and agree to a certain extent, the first meet point was lost only 2 months prior to the event due to the local council not getting themselves sorted. I bet you can guess how much extra work this made for the event management team.

While I cant comment on the Calder Park meet point traffic as I was inside the event from about 8am, I cant tell you how very upset they were when they found out the first meet point was shut down, and people were turned away due to the traffic problems. Venues to cater for 3500 cars in Melbourne are extremely limited, and many of the decent ones are not interested in having their paddocks turned to dust by a few idiots out of the pack.

Vic police, and Vic roads do not take the size of the event seriously enough, Vic Police work in with the event management as much as they can, but due to lack of staff there isnt really much more they can do to assist. The traffic is a problem, and there isnt one persone that wont agree with that, but you cant turn cars away because they are stock, or VN V6's!! Everyone has the right to attend the event, no matter what car they drive, its not about turning people away.

Im sure that the event team are already working on what went wrong, and how to improve the event next year already. I dont have the answers, the people running the event are much smarter than me. However, they only real thing I have been able to think of would maybe be the option of a northern suburbs first meet point, and a south eastern first meet point, and a central destination point with a staggered time arrival. Im not sure a two day event could work, there would be no way to ensure there would be equal numbers each day. Not to mention the cost to hire the venues for 2 days along with staff and so on.

Event staff were also busy making sure people were behaving themselves in the paddocks to rather than helping traffic management get cars in and out of the event. This also takes staff away from collecting donations. I personally think most people go with the intention of donating, I agrree though, if its too hard to make the donation, then a few people may choose to skip it, i think that goes against the spirit of the event though. But I guess your always going to get that.
