the new addition to my family

picked up another project sunday just gone.

some details on her...
has 5L v8
auto trans (box of neutral)
cosmetic tlc needed

heres some pictures...

first things first is to change the trans thats buggered! slipping when tryed to move it. checked trans fluid and found what was left in there is all black.

some of the trims are slowly coming off like so:

the more major cosmetic thing is the roof...

once these are cleaned up she should be a good looker...

Yeah that's the plan sand all back and go from there. Try my best to bring it up good.
The door handle are one of my fave things on this... Along with the body kit

Update:

Friday 13th had everything ready to do night mission. Got all my gear out of my car flood lamps all set up and my mate askes where's the keys... Uh bugger left them at work 45 mind away. Couldn't be bothered going get them.
Jacked up what we could and removed drive shaft and pumped up tyres.
That was all.

Sat 14
Worked all day. Got to the car... With keys in hand this time! Managed to push the beast (6 point turn) into the garage by my self. Only toke about 45 mins lol

Sunday 15
Jacked up drained what I could from trans.
Removed bits and bobs and slowly dropped it down. Trans fluid flowed out everywhere lol.
Swapped over bits from old to replacement box.
Balanenced trans on the jack rolled her under and jacked her up. With a bit of jiggling managed to pop it into place. Bell housing bolts screwed back in. X member bolts back in
And that was the night.

Tomorrow night is just torque convert bolts ( times 3) drive shaft back on and test it...
To test drive it just have to wait til the big skip bin is removed from blocking the drive way lol.

More pics to come...

With the factory 3.08 diff it should sit around 2600rpm at 100kph...

Since I had my ratio changed to 2.77 mine does around 2300-2400rpm...

Its not listed in the VL Parts Manual, but I did manage to find it in an HQ Parts Manual...

Its a "Solenoid Actuating Switch"

What it does, is another question altogether LOL

Ah huh. Thanks big time for that I'm going to spend this morning susing it out. When I toke the old box out it had one wire from there to a connector box. And there was another wire which had broken off somewhere.

Hopfully if i can find that mayb the revs might drop too? Lol hope so anyway

Another thing to check is the speedo drive gear colour in the trans.

When you pulled the speedo cable out of the box, it would have had a coloured gear on the end of it. Standard VL V8 will have a light blue colour gear which has 25 teeth to match the 3.08 diff.

Because I changed my diff to 2.77, I swapped the gear for a yellow one which has 24 teeth and now my speedo is pretty much bang on
