Most of the codes are really only for production use but you should find all the relevant ones pertaining to your car on the Production Broadcast sheet which may still be under your carpet if it's original. It's a computer printed sheet which specified every option (apart from later dealer fitted items) at the time of production, right down to the type of badging fitted to each. Copies seem to have been left in most cars but they're apparently rarer in Melbourne built cars and most have now been affected by condensation, leaks and spillages etc.
Ones specifying a major package will appear on your option plate at the end of the model type VL8VK19"-BT1" or VL8XXXX"-A9Y" or VL8XXXX"-225" for example. Under trim you'll have XXXX"-65I" for instance. Engine, trans and axle codes will appear at the bottom of your option plate. All were taken from the final paper copy of the VL parts manual dated November 1988.

There are a couple of ways around it.
First up, try and get the best quality bits you can find (ie, no broken mount points, no cracks, no deep scratches that mark the grain on the plastic). Colour doesn't really matter. As for painting, people seem to have used all sorts of gear. Most of the original parts were painted anyway (especially the hard plastic parts) so done properly it won't be any different to the original. 1. Some say Holden dealers will match up the colour for you but I sure haven't found one willing or even wanting to know about it in Adelaide. 2. Others have bought the pressure pack vinyl spray from AutoBarn and the like but the colour range is limited and not much use if you want to keep to the original colours. Works fine though from what people have told me. 3. All I've ever used is a paint called S.E.M. vinyl paint mixed up by Crash Supplies here in Adelaide (There should be other stockists around the country). I take in a glove box lid or door handle and they match it up. No thinning required for use in an airbrush or spray gun and it's thin enough to do brush touch ups later if you ever scratch it again but don't want to do the whole lot. Has a satiny lustre to it and seem to wear reasonably well. I've had a light grey on my Calais inside front door handles for a year with no sign of wear so far. The best condition handles I could find at the time were red. The light grey covered it well after a couple of coats. For the hard part of the dash surround I sprayed the whole thing with light grey then masked off the little areas to be sprayed black. As it was on hard plastic I used GM Black and haven't had a problem with it.

Best bet might be a hard LE front lip from any people dealing in HDT parts. It's a little deeper than the Formula lip and would probably wear better as the Formula ones are foam rubber.
