Uter, Your car might have been converted to manual or the plate and Id of your car might be dodgey. Or it might just be a factory mistake... who knows?? My plate is wrong too coz i converted my car to manual.

Whats the go... The list seems to be missing Absynth Yellow, which was the yellow colour used on all of the beloved BT1's.. Butternut is quite a bit more pale than Absynth, they are NOT the same colour.

What's your exterior paint code ? One of these perhaps -

I have been looking for some info on Absynth. The info is hard to come by, but yesterday an old panel beater from Melbourne told me that the BT1 colour absynth ( yellow) was a dulux colour which was originally from of all things the SLR 5000 torana. Further, this was not to be confused with Chrome Yellow.

The interior colour code won't actually give you much that will be recognised by a paint company. It's more just a generalisation for the colour of the entire trim package.

You'll have to take a sample piece of trim over to whoever mixes your paint and get them to match it up that way. Beware though that the console and dash are one colour and the armrests and seat plastic (on S2's anyway) are a different shade.

In know Crash Supplies in Adelaide colour match what they call SEM vinyl paint in a 500ml tin that you can then run through and airbrush or spray gun. They may even put it in pressure packs not sure. There should be people in each state who do the same.

Sorry if it's a dumb question but i'm new to this and I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled across the paint codes, because i really want to get it right (need to respray my front end).

It is of no significance in terms or the colour, the code for the colour is the 4 numbers a 1 letter that come before. All of the VL's I have seen have the -D on the end, I don't know if there is any other letter apart from D for the paint codes.

You'll have to take a sample piece of trim over to whoever mixes your paint and get them to match it up that way. Beware though that the console and dash are one colour and the armrests and seat plastic (on S2's anyway) are a different shade.

In know Crash Supplies in Adelaide colour match what they call SEM vinyl paint in a 500ml tin that you can then run through and airbrush or spray gun. They may even put it in pressure packs not sure. There should be people in each state who do the same.

if you give holden the paint code on the vin plate they can make up the paint for you...

i got mine done thru preston motors.. got paint made up in pressure packs... the place i deal with buys alot of products thru preston motors for all types of holdens..

so maybe see if holden can help you out...

Guys I have a Factory 5L with paint code "1j052". Now my question is the car is single tone alpine white, Would it have come factory like that?

I found the paint code in the code list but it only has the one code

Should these other codes be listed if it was produced 2 tone

Im just trying to sort the orgins of this car out as I bare metaled the car and completely stripped the plastic's and did not find any silver anywhere.

The bumper colour isn't listed on the options plate but it's a good bet it would have been 4J023 Asteroid Trim unless the original owner specified otherwise when ordering it new.

Even then the bumpers may have been painted white by the dealer rather than specially order it.

The only thing that will show it is the Production Broadcast sheet for that particular car which can only be found (if you're lucky) under the carpet somewhere towards the rear footwells. If you've found that, look in the following numbered boxes -

#19 Mouldings Body Side - AST
#51 Bumper Facia Rear - AST
#56 Bumper Facia Front - AST

AST means Asteroid Trim for instance, but it still doesn't mean a dealer wouldn't have painted them white, or it was done at a much later date by a subsequent owner (more likely).

I have a vl calais with the 75I trim code and 77l paint code. as the car is a red over silver and i'am going to be respraying the car i need to now what the lower colour code is. as per the listing it would make sence for it to be the #4F002 Super Light Opal Fire Paint 1988 Calais (with 60L or 77L exteriors) listing but as the code says 1988 calais and the car i have is a 1986 would it still be the same colour??
aslo with the exception with the codes that are on the plates where can i find out about all the other codes that refer to the many other options other then paint trim etc??

Weird thing is the parts book only lists bumper colours for 1987/8 cars. The don't break it down for 1986 so I've no idea whether they were just doing all the Calais bumpers in 1986 in Asteroid or whether they just didn't bother listing the various bumper colours for that year.

For 1988 though the bumpers were 4F002 with the 77L Wild Mulberry. It's a slightly pink tinged silver but looks quite good.

Only other place you can find out more about what your car originally came with (other than what's on the option plate) is on the Production Broadcast sheet which, if you're lucky, may still be under your carpet if it's original. It breaks the car down bit by bit and will even show if it came with a hood silencer and sump guard for instance. It will also tell you what the paint colour of your '86 bumpers should have been (see the post just above yours).

If the sheet isn't there then you're out of luck unfortunately.

Thanx for the info. i would assume that the bumper colour is the 4f002 as its definatly not astriod silver but it is more like what you explained with the pink tinge. i'll check under the carpet tonight and see what i can find
