Thanks Rick.

Yeah - Boost = more $... maybe next time I get a mega cash injection i'll look at boost

T400 was chosen as it could be built tough to take abuse and also non-electronic (no wires at all need to go to it).

Can anyone tell me what kind of Throttle Cable i'm going to need? VL one is too long. Will a VT one fit (pedal side?) - What about a VL Walky item?

Big day!

Unwapped the engine. So clean and awesome

Fitted the Starter Conversion plate on the back with the longer dowel pins.

Then... Put the engine in to see about the clearance for the sump. A bit of the K-Frame needed to be notched a bit to ensure full clearance.

And then it was in.

Then I added the accessories (Intake Manifold, T/B, P/S Res, P/S Pump, P/S Lines, Alternator, Water Pump, Radiator, Thermo's... Put the new injectors in the fuel rails (and ended up turning the fuel rails 180 deg so the fuel inlet is on the same side at the normal fuel feed line in the VL)

And then put the bonnet back on.

Gotta source a new Harmonic Balancer, and flexplate... then the car goes off to Sure Shift to get the T400, Stall, and Tailshaft all installed and fitted up.

Really starting to come along now

I saw that too, donor motor might have been from a smashed car, either way I would have thought some repairs would have been in order if not a new block, otherwise I've been following this thread since the start and it's looking nice.

Yeah, didn't notice that before. Doesn't look critical though. Will confirm with engine builder, but i'm sure if it was anything to worry about he wouldn't have let it be built.

it's either been dropped or over tightened

not structural but what i always worry about is stress raisers

regardless it's built now looks nice, and as soon as you finish it skids

Update:

VL is at Sure Shift getting the T400 installed.
The T400 case was sourced as a genuine Australian item from an old 308 with low kms. (Apparently the Australian cases are thicker and stronger than the american T400's). Internals are all new, will be manual shifted with upgraded parts throughout (will get full specs later).

Stall converter was ordered for LS1 to T400 with 8mm spacer between engine and box for the starter conversion plate. Stall is ordered as a 4800 rpm stall.

The stall converter turned up at Sure Shift on Monday and should be in the car by now

Also looked at the Flex Plate that came with the engine and decided it was too rust to use, so a new Heavy Duty (SFI rated) flex plate was ordered along with new ARP Flex Plate bolts.

Picked up a new Derale Trans cooler (10" x 18" with AN fittings) to keep the gearbox cool. Hardlines will be made up to go from box to cooler.

Also, the Harmonic Balancer turned up. Is a PowerBond 25% underdriven kit with all new pulleys and belts to suit.

The water pump was also looking a bit worse for wear, so picked up a new Water Pump and gaskets for the engine too.

No pics of the new parts yet - will get some pics soon when I pick the VL from Sure Shift.

Yeah, Kit is staying on the car. For over $20k spent, you'd think it would look different... ahhaha. only external difference will be an additional 3" pipe in the rear bar.

speedking -Will make sure vids are posted

Boyracer - yeah - the build has gone way bigger than I originally planned.

stocker31 - The lines are 316 Stainless Steel seamless tubing 3/8" O/D with 0.9mm wall.

jbonez - I went and bought a GM VT Accel Cable (non cruise & non trac control). Will see how that fits up when I get a chance.

Just to keep things updating while car is still getting Trans in (Stall converter had issue prior to going in, so got sent back to be fixed)

Got a few more goodies and will reveal them slowly... hahaha

Package arrived from the U.S... My Coil Brackets! Will make mounting them under the dash easy

Really hope to have the VL done in time for PowerCruise.

Looks good insaneo, there is a guy with a turbo LS in a VX Wagon, who got all the wiring removed from the bay including coil packs and he went to an under the dash solution. He has had nothing but problems with spark now. I believe he is moving them down onto the rail so it is a shorter run.

I have nfi what the issue is, but some kind of earthing issue it would have to be.

Yeah - sounds like a bad earth... Seen lots of posts about people moving the Coils, and not one complain about bad spark.

Since I'm redoing the whole loom anyway - i'm making sure all the Earths are good and go where they are supposed to.

Will also be adding some 0-gauge earths between block and chassis and possible run some from block back to neg on battery just to "make sure"...

---------- Post added 26-07-12 at 17:20 ----------

Getting closer!

Another teaser from today...

After a long ordeal to get the stall converter just right to the point that Scott from Sure Shift was confident to put it in the car... Here is a progress shot of the gearbox in the midst of being put into the car.

and a close up of the TCI Heavy Duty Flex Plate (held in by ARP Flex Plate Bolts)

More stuff to come!
