Small update.

Been sorting out a few things with the car. Unfortunately hit a snag with needing the actual Motor and Gearbox in the car to continue on with anything.

So really waiting on the engine to be done.
On the subject of the engine - the heads have now returned from being flowed. Just waiting on the bottom end to be put together so we can then work out how much to deck the head to gain as much compression while keeping lift to just under 600. Once the heads get decked, the valve clearance will be double checked and the largest cam we can get in there will be ordered with the least LSA for a cranky lumpy sound and great performance.

So, While i'm still waiting on the engine to be done, I sent the car away to have some panel work done. (Idle hands means the budget gets another blow... argh.. I need this engine done!)

A few years back I done a Battery-to-Boot conversion. When ripping up the battery tray, I made a mess of the panel underneath as some dick spot welded it about a 1000 times.

So the idea is to just get the front inner guards fixed up and repainted. As the engine will be a nice focus point in the engine bay - need to make sure that there isnt any fucked panels making things ugly in there. Hopefully down the track i'll pull the motor again and redo the lot, but for now its just a quick tidy up of these 2 front inner guards.

To do this - Dummy block/engine and Gearbox was removed. These won't be back - next time and engine is in the car, will be the real one.

Also removed the standard fuel tank to make sure there will be room for both 3" exhausts to exit each side.

Panel before pics:
Drivers Side where the battery tray was.

Passenger side (Hole will be going to 4" for intake piping to go through)

Engine bay at the moment.

Quick update (no pics this time though)

Engine is finally coming together. Bottom end is almost done. The heads will be mocked up and the final cam specs chosen and ordered shortly.

VL is expected back next week with the engine bay tidy up (nothing major, just the front inner guard panels)

Pics up of the 2 front inner guard panels... sorry about the ****ty pics. Was dark - phone doesn't have a flash...

Drivers Side (Where the Battery Tray was)...

Passenger side redone aswell.

Still waiting on engine. So while i'm waiting on that - will be installing fuel system next weekend. Keep tuned for updates on that progress.

Thanks Trying to move some things along as I can't wait to get this all together. Won't cut corners though.

I didn't do the entire engine bay this time due to budget constraints. What you see above cost me $300. That is drop off, pick up - all labour and materials supplied and paint matched. Down the track, once the car is up and running (and my bank account ballance returns to a bit more of a normal status), i'll pull the motor out again and have the entire bay smoothed over and repainted (weld over all the holes - beat out all the factory dents - etc)...

More updates...
Installed the fuel cell, surge tank and pumps. All bolted down, just need to do the stainless steel hardlines and wire the pumps in.

More fittings arrived today.
This should round up all the fittings needed for inside the boot. Still need some for under the boot (between fuel cell and lift pump).

More about the cost. Will drop $2-$3k on the engine bay to get it how I really want - just don't have that much spare in the budget this time. Will get it going now. Takes all of 30 mins to take the engine out anyway - easy as.

Update...

Engine will be done next Wednesday.
Cam specs will be about the 238/240 mark with mid 500's lift. LSA of 110 to make it nice and lumpy. Heads have been flowed so should go well.

Shifter dropbox is done, gotta pick it up on Friday, so will get that installed with the shifter on Saturday.

Hopefully from here on in, updates will be a bit more frequent as everything finally comes together.

Mid 500's is nice and gentle on the lift mate, did you take that much off the heads?

Duke - Cam will be mid "590's", not mid "500's"... which will be pretty good. Heads are being shaved 20 thou. Compression will end up about 10.5:1.

Some updates. Got the S/S hardline bent up and roughly sized. Still need to get them flared, but broke my flaring tool on a test piece, so will probably get someone with a proffesional flaring tool in to do it for me.

1st overflow pipe. Wasn't happy with it, so ended up redoing it.

With Feeds towards Battery. Wasn't happy with them this way, so put them towards the Cell.

New overflow & Feeds.

Also sorted out the shifter position. Got a dropbox made up to sit the shifter in nicely under the standard console.

Hole for Shifter Dropbox

Shifter Box and Shifter in.

Centre Console on

haha.. yeah.. misheard the engine guy the first time when he quickly rattled off the specs and didn't realise "mid-500's" isn't that big on ls1. Had a chat to him a few days later and got all the specs off him.

Engine is almost all together. Just need to put Sump on, and waiting on valve springs for the heads to be all finalised and put on.

Don't suppose you have a 90deg -8 Female to -8 barb fitting in black you want to send me?
