Popped into Hardcore Performance to pick a few parts up (all the accessories that they don't need when assembling the short block) and got a few photo's of the disassembled engine.

Parts have just been all cleaned up. Bores look great and should just need a light hone to be put back together. Block doesn't look like it's had a hard life - looks like not many kms on it.

The standard 241 cast heads will need decking if they go back on (which will lift the compression up a bit - and also limit the size cam that can go in). So I'm checking out a few options to get some 243 heads or 799 heads.

I'll throw some photo's of the other parts up soon.

sounds good man deck the 241's, they flow good enough. dont go wasting money on 243, 799, 317 ones unless your planning on going 500hp+ and cranky

also the 243 (ls2) heads wont be any good for you anyways as they run a 4" bore and a 241 (ls1) heads run a 3.9" bore from memory...

---------- Post added 22-01-12 at 16:33 ----------

you going to chuck a set of H-Beams in it for maybe future force induction?

243's work on the 3.9 bore I'm pretty sure as they are a budget minded upgrade if you can get them.

243's have larger valves - so can't run as big of a cam - however, the gain you get from the better breathing heads and larger valves compensates this.

Kyle is working out what cam I can run on what heads with what decked height with what compression for best outcome. Lots of maths to work out on it!

Once that's all sorted out, i'll let everyone know the specs of compression, and cam specs that it'll be running.

Yeah - saw that ad. Car looks pretty rough. Unknown condition of the motor - has the manual behind it (I want auto - T400).. Could be a bargain for someone if they want to do it that way.. Probably buying someone else's headache though.

I'm making sure everything is done right this time. T400 is being built new to take the power. Engine is going to be a fresh rebuild. New custom tailshaft. New custom stally to meet my needs. New custom exhaust/headers. etc. Costs a bit more - but at least I know most of the main parts are new, and I'm not chasing my tail with crap.

So... picked up the box of accessories off the engine and sorted through what i've got here...

LS6 intake manifold with injectors and rail. Injectors will be replaced with 60lb'ers.

Coils...

Starter & Starter Heat Shield

Standard Throttle body

P/S Reservior... will probably be replaced with an aftermarket one after the VL gets back on the road.

Flexplate. Might need a bit of a cleanup...

Water Pump...

Alternator & Tensioner...

VY LS1 Auto Wiring Loom

Slowly Slowly parts are coming together. Conversion mounts were ordered yesterday, so hopefully will be here by the end of the week.

Auto Shifter Console Insert came on Friday.

Nothing exciting just yet. Thread should get interesting after PowerPlay in Feb when I pull the motor out and start putting everything in the car rather than just ordering stuff.. lol...

Conversion Mounts arrived today! Made by Redwood Fabrication in SA.

Closer on the Trans cross member with the rubber trans mount and what looks like a spacer (??)

Drivers Side Mounts. From the left is the mount that goes on the 6cyl K-Frame (yes, it's round the wrong way for the "exploded" view - the rhs goes on kframe, lhs to the rubber mount), centre is the Rubber mount (seems to be a 308 V8 engine mount), Right is the mount that goes on the block.

Another angle of the drivers side mounts. Passenger side is similar, but slight overall height difference due to the 6 cyl k-frame.

And the Engineering Papers that came with the mounts. Goes through the Trans mounts and the Engine mounts. Tollerances, torque settings, etc. Should make engineering alot easier.

Been a while. Not much has been happening as I've just been amasing some more parts while waiting for the Engine to be built.

However - at last - some exciting stuff is being done! The VL now officially has 8 Cyinders (8 pistons is another question though hahaha)

To get things moving while waiting for the real engine - i've borrowed a stuffed LS1 block from a mate with a big hole in the side (whoops)

With the Hole.

The Redwood engine mounts were put on, but not before I had to go out and buy the bolts for them.. one thing that could have been improved was to sell them with the bolts!!

Passenger Side

Drivers Side

Then the engine was lifted by hand into the engine bay. These blocks are so light!

While i'm still waiting on the gearbox - I threw a spacer between the block and kframe to hold the back of the block up.

So some spare heads went on to check some clearances

The main clearance I wanted to check was the space between the Driver Side Rocker Cover and the Brake Booster (being that I am running a VS booster/VT Master).

The coils will NOT fit I will need to have the coils relocated now. While i'm at it, I might look at some nicer rocker covers aswell.

Clearance for the exhaust is going to be tight and my exhaust make will probably end up hating me.

Driver Side clearance:

Passenger Side Clearance (Still got a starter motor to go in this side)

Manifold on to see how it looks.

Engine mounts from the Front.

Drivers Side Engine Mount from the front

Passenger Side Engine Mount from the front

Still waiting on a sump to check the Sump Clearances on the KFrame and also waiting on a dummy gearbox to fit up to check that out. Might have to throw some accessories on the front before sending it off for the exhaust to be made so they know how much room they have to play with.

Fuel system should arrive this week and will try get that in before it goes off for the exhaust.

Will get more photo's of all of that too when they arrive.

A few more go-fast bits arrived today.

2L Surge Tank to go in the boot. Nice and Shiny!!

Will be feeding 2 x Bosch 044's. One of which is currently on the VL. Additional new one:

Held in together by a nice Twin Fuel Pump Bracket.

Both pumps will feed a Fuel Converter to converge it into 1 line.

Then through a TurboSmart FPR1200

With Fuel Pressure being monitored by a Fuel Pressure Gauge. An electronic sender will also send Fuel Pressure to a Gauge in the interior for on the go monitoring.

Fuel will be filtered coming into the Surge Tank by a Inline Fuel Filter

All the fuel system components together:

Now waiting to sort out a few fittings and Hardline so I can put it all together.

Also got 2 New Oxy sensors that will go in the exhaust.

Hmm interesting. I didn't know the LS2 coils were any different (Physical size)

Regardless. The intention later was to end up hiding the coils anyway. Just means I spend a little more now on custom length ignition leads instead of re-doing it later.

Thought i'd get a start on the wiring loom.

Here is the standard engine harness untouched.

First step was to strip all the tape, split tubing, and anything else holding all the wires together. I also labeled all the plugs so I knew which plug was what.

1/2 way through

Done.

Then started stripping out all the additional crap I didn't need. This included
A/C connections
PIM connections
MAF connection (since its going to be MAFless)
BCM connections
Throttle Relaxer connections
Traction Control connections
Gearbox connections (T400 is going to be manually shifted, so no need for this - including speed sensor connection as this will be cable driven)

Leaving the following:

There is more wires to come out of this and will be done in round 2.

Not much left and more to be taken out. This is everything that got taken out.
