I'm in QLD but since it was an optional engine I think you dont need eng cert but I'd bet you'll need to show inspector turbo brake upgrade recon that'd be about it, might have to take car to motor transport to verify engine number after you get RWC too, unless coverting your RB30 non turbo to turbo, can anyone clear this up for both NSW and QLD cheers

---------- Post added 31-08-11 at 20:09 ----------

Actually I wouldnt even say anything to the roadworth guy just say yeah man it's a VL turbo, just took th badge off, doubt he'll even check vin model etc

I spoke too a engineer named col Potts he said it has too be engineered, but when you read the document on the rta website it reads like because the turbo was a factory option it doesn't need too be engineered?

---------- Post added 31-08-11 at 21:08 ----------

My car will also need to be bluesliped

Pottsy is a good guy n will pass almost anything as long as its safe.... I think because the turbo is spec'd differently ie: Brakes, Gearbox n Diff!!!! I think that side of things will need to be checked.... Not so much the engine side of things....

im no expert but i went through all this getting info about various engine conversions for an VL NA6

it doesnt matter what state you are in the ADR is australia wide and compliance is required when converting an NA6 to a TURBO6 or V6/V8

the factory compliances for VL NA6 VL TURBO and VL V8 configurations are already engineerd ADR and EPA aproved so its only when you step outside of them that you may need engineering for power to weight handling and stopping depending on what non factory/model parts are used and modifications that are made to use them for the conversion

as long as you are sticking to factory complied VL TURBO specs you should only require 4 wheel disc brakes with VL TURBO brakes up front and a 1inch master
blueslip safety inspection for compliance and a mod plate

best thing to do is contact your blueslip inspector and discuss it with them

Yeah you will just have to meet the same standards as the turbo car with brakes and emmissions etc.

If it was converted across as stock I wouldn't bother.

I spoke too the help line at the RTA and from what i could understand (which wasnt much) was that if the chassis where the same from NA6 to Turbo 6 you can run either motor.
He mentioned checking with holden that my chassis number was also used as a turbo model i didnt get that?

What he was referring to is whether the chassis you have is the same type used for turbo and V8, which it is.

Can the EPA tell by your plates if its not factory turbo? Even so i doubt your average mechanic or Highway cop could.
I dont get how people get their tunnel rammed s/c V8s engineered or rego'ed, you'd think that mechanical belts and carbies full of hot fuel coming out of the bonnet would be totally illegal but people still get away with it, i really wouldnt worry about it too much

ay bro, im pretty sure in regards to stuff out the bonnet with v8s, most of those types of cars wont be engineered, due to the fact of safety. Usually to get around that you need some type of scoop (ie vk sloping style), as the law states that if you were to hit someone in an accident, a carby out the bonnet or a filter would impede this. Even alot of scoops (large front on ones for front on air induction) are illegal, so I find it highly doubtful that any carby/ filtered v8s will be engineered.

There just not daily cars thats all. Youve got a much better chance of engineering a turbo'd car than a modded v8 one, Im currently doing a modded v8 project car and theres LOTS of issues.

Yeah i figured, do all those dudes at C4C get one day permits or something? Cars like IH83LT and 2DSIRE were on the street so i guess theyd have to get permits. Didnt look like the cops cared much anyway.

I dont plan on getting my GT42 high mount setup engineered

when i was looking at getting mine engineered the engineer said i had to get an emissions test because of bigger turbo and microtech but said not worry as he knew someone that could do me a emissions friendly tune.
