the rear quater got a bit damp in those storms, so when it comes time for the paint job iill get it rubbed back. talked to a couple of shops and they said they would only do it, if they bare metal it.

Just paint it yourself! Your car can look equally as good as my "orange peel" VL lolol

haha, i did look into doing that course i asked you about ink, but i didnt have the spare funds or time. id love to be able to paint my own car, but i think i would end up cutting a few small corners and be dissapointed with it in the end.

The reason why most panel shops will want to do it bare metal themselves is because at the end of the day, there putting there name on it. A good paint job is all in the prep work. If you cut corners prepping it, it will show in the final product. Take your time and get it done right the first time.

for an idea, i got quote 15k to do my torana and they have no rust to repair but if they do find some hidden nasties it would be included in the cost.

pretty normal price if you want it done properly, i reckon any cheaper and you will definately find imperfections.

yea, i was talking to a friend who " collects cars" ..he just brought the orange torana that was at motorvation this year and the paint job on that cost 20k. his hq gts? or maybe hk? cost him 15k to paint aswell. but he said older cars like that do cost alot more, he has even owned a vl at one point, got that painted and it only cost him 5k for a really good job.

i had saved some money to spend on this little bad boy, ( i was going to buy all the bolt kits and missing bits and pieces) but i decided to buy a pool table instead this week.. haha
next year is looking up for the project as i may of convinced the mrs to not do a trip over to the states for christmas. so hopefully i can get this thing progressing mid next year.

bought a sunroof. missus hates it! when its in the car i think she will change her mind about it. after cleaning it up and giving it a bit of a wash, it came up a treat. works pretty well for its age.

ill probably clean all the 'sliding rails' init and then regrease later on and it should work alot better.

car is now for sale. as is.. comes with loads of extras.
reason for sale is i want to import something from the states or from over east in a couple of years and dont see the point in spending anymore money on it if im going to sell it anyways....

looking for 3.5k ono.

ill start making a list of what it needs/ has ,so people dont need to flik through the thread.

---------- Post added 06-11-11 at 22:25 ----------

Ok so my vl has:
welded and smoothed engine bay.
Fuel flap removed and smoothed.
8point custom roll cage that hugs the body of the car tightly.
removeable side intrustion bars
Bar work in boot so suspension can be moved inwards so you can run bigger tyres/ rims.
Working sunroof. Comes with everything you need . Works great!
ALL RUST REMOVED
Smoothed windscreen wiper section (i have a replacement panel)
The tyre well has been lifted out of sight
With a bit of sanding the boot floor will look brand new, all rust removed. Just surface rust which i converted and sealed for the time being.
Obviously the whole car needs a rub back due to the time it has been in primer.
The underside of the car has been bare metalled ,sealed, stoned guarded and painted black.
The rear of the car has no suspension... apart from shocks.

---------- Post added 06-11-11 at 22:28 ----------

the car has had alot of money spent onit and is well worth the asking price of 3.5k. so dont come at me with stupid low ball offers of 1k plus a kebab... im more than happy to answer any questions you guys have. pm me or reply in this thread..

Most people go down that route. If it ends up goin that way then so be it, but I would like to do two smaller ones on there tho.

so you've decided to keep it then?

The colour on Dave's old LE is Asteroid Silver. Can't remember of that car went to an interstate buyer or not.

Keep the pics coming!!

yea, main reason for selling was because i needed cash flow, plus i had one of those
'I HATE YOU CAR' moments. but got a new job and all is good.

when i get my hands on some wheels ill post some pics, just got to pay off the credit card and buy some tickets to england soon. hopefully i can have that sorted out just after christmas.

if i were you i would leve wheels till last, get all the body work done, then sort out the driveline so you dont stuff your paint pulling the motor in and out, then paint it and then do interior

The ass end needs to be sorted out first, as currently it cant move, I'll just buy the wheels so I can get all the diff shortened, then I'll just put stockys on it and store them, so at least I can move it around.

Plan is,

Diff end and wheels
Motor and gearbox work etc. Get it all plumbed up and running
Pull everything out and do body work/ paint
Put everything back in
Interior
