LX Torana - Cammed LS1

Well since Mo is posting his project thought i'd post mine!

Tiny bit of history, i've had this car around 4 or so years, second owner... has a Bill Lee HDT 202 engine from around 1991 for a bit of Nostalgia!

Anyway stuffed around with a 26/30 project for way too long that i couldn't seem to keep under the bonnet. Long story short i recently sold off all the RB gear and got me a cammed/headed ls1.

Been gathering parts for a month or so, should have bought a wreck really (damn you mo)

On the weekend i decided to get the 202 running (hasnt been run in 2+ years) and move the car to its new temporary home in a bigger shed.

After many a head****s including thinking mice had eaten my ignition i got it running albeit on 5 or so cylinders.

You can possibly notice aswell that the bonnet and bonnet hinges are off and i was super stoked to find no rust at all behind them which is almost unheard of, but hey you get that with a 1 previous owner car!

All toranas do have some rust somewhere, luckily mine only has this tiny bit in the LHS wheel arch


Parts waiting to go in:
DTM (Dimoff) built TH400 rated at 800hp, Tassone has just ordered identical box!
B&M Megashifter
TCI Flexplate suit LS1 > TH400
B&M trans cooler (fanned version)
TUFF Mounts
TCE 3500 converter
R31 BW78 Diff
Kaaz centre
Hoppers Stoppers 290mm brake kit
Morosso oil pan and pickup

Before most of this can go in, i need to tear out the factory heaterbox system, then smooth the bay and paint it (black i've chosen) This is going to take a while!

Only things i won't be doing is obviously the tailshaft, fabricating the radiator and tuning it.

Will update this as i get to it

Ok the engine and box is finally out so i can start getting stuck into making the bay all nice and clean!

Out with the old in with the new!

Torana diff out, what a monster after being in there 34 years!!!!

R31 borg warner diff sitting in front that will have mounts swapped to be bolted back in with a Kazz centre

The VY R8 rims suit quite fine for now, i'm set on pro stars when its up and running
THE ENGINE IS IN.......... **** YES
I also done a test "align" of the VY R8 rims

Just the stock look for now mate, then gonna have kids n **** and paint in a few years time in a crazy colour. Well happy with the factory colour though!

I got a hatchback aswell that needs some love. Keep an eye out when this has hit the streets.. going to go big block with the hatchback.

Hopper Stoppers kit now fitted to front with VY R8 rims on!

MASSIVE hassle of a job removing the torana brake lines and swapping the stubs over, being on there since 76 made it a bitch.

for an update

my dads is very sick now so progress has slowed so i can hang out with him

but i have the diff back from Final Drive and have sorted a kazz centre out and picked up some 4.11 diff gears

need to get it in and measured for the tailshaft which Final Drive will also be doing

Well another one of my many Summit orders arrived today.
TCI Flexplate suit LS1 > TH400
B&M Hi-Tek transmission cooler with thermo and temp sensor etc
TH400 "dust cover"
Morosso remote oil filter mount with K&N filter

Missing one of the 6 ARP Flexplate bolts but i'm sure they'll sort this out for me



I've also bought a spare LS1 that i plan to rebuild and/or stroke as a spare for this or to go into my hatch.

nice update man, curious to know wat the flexplate and dust cover was worth..

i was gona do the flexplate option ( i have built t400 now ) but ended up up getting all fast to build me a convertor to suit instead, all up around $1100

I get most of my gear from Summit in the states

Flexplate is TCI-399753 and it was $214.95 & the dust cover is TCI-743866 and was $21.95

Its like half price over there and the freight is cheap as ****

Payed $150 for this freight price... saved it on the flexplate alone... the transmission cooler is BMM-70298 and was $199.75 and its over $500 here

Allfast is good but i've had 3 converters done now and 2 weren't what i wanted and Simon wanted me to pay extra to rectify... so i'm going straight to Dominator when i decide whether to keep current cam or change.

gd stuff man, pity u had a down fall with simon, he's been nothing but gd to me so far.

i need that bottom inspection (dust cover) for my box,mine hasnt got 1.

i was looking through summits catalouge last w/e and its unbelievable how cheap there prices are, weld prostars $189 each for a 15x8 + obviosuly freight but yer so cheap, im gona wait til i get a decent order together and get it all at once..

Well some good news

Tim Slako from West Racing has been able to dig up the history of my engine he put together for the previous owner

So now i am able to order the stall... going to go with a 4000 or 4500 stall through TCE so far but haven't spoken to Dominator yet.

Pretty happy with the cam size enough to leave it in there.

Modified loom should be here in 3 weeks so i can get some more progress done.
