Tic's 88 exec

Hey everyone, im Daniel and have had this vl for about 2 years. I brought it off an old bloke in sydney for a good price with 120xxxkm. It was a dead stocker og car with 14" wheels and hubcaps, cheapo mudflaps, etc.

So far all i have done to it is put chasers on it, lower it on king springs, put on a bigger exhaust and resprayed the boot lid. Any comments and opinions would be appreciated.

Make / Model:88 vl executive
Colour:maranello red
Bodykit: none
Engine Type: rb30e
Engine Mods:none
Power: not enough
Exhaust:2 1/4
Gearbox: stock n/a auto
Diff:stock single spinner
Brakes:stock n/a
Suspension:king springs, pedders adjustable panhard rod
Wheels/Tyres: 15" chasers with chrome trims
Interior: stock
Stereoionner head deck, sony 4" in dash and 6x9 in the back

Future mods: full set of white venetians, white walls, 2 12" subs and eventually turbo it.

Little bit of an update

Got a full set of venetians for christmas

also i dunno if i should white wall the chasers or 14" with hubcaps with whitewalls. i tried some 14"s with my hubcaps the other day and i think looks alright

I would like to know what people think would look better.

Next to do is find a centre console lid and sunglasses holder and figure out why it doesnt idle when it is cold but runs fine after it has been running for a minute, i have replaced afm and it has had a new cas about 18 months ago.

I reckon it looks good with whitewalls and hubbies.........it looks good in that pic because it's lowered etc.....

I found that with mine because it's an auto, a 2.5" exhaust didn't give me more power - quite the opposite actually. Went back to the factory 2" and picked up power again. I don't know if you've lost power when fitting the 2 1/4"?

I think it may have lost a bit of power but i only put on the exhaust so it would have a nicer note.

I would love to get turbo caps but they are just so hard to find and so expensive.

A bit of an update. I have put in the mf5 conversion last week and vl had a blown head gasket so did that also. The conversion went smoothly apart from tring to get the auto spigot bush out, eventually it did with some careful drilling. Feels like a differant car to drive now.
I also brought a complete calais turbo for parts with a genuine a8 block that will be rebuilt with forgies, etc. Also has complete vlt brakes but a 25 spline open diff with discs
Next on the list of things to do is build a lsd disc diff and install turbo brakes.

Installed the turbo front brakes today. Stops alot better than it did before. Next to do is put an lsd in the disc diff and paint and fit that along with the 1" master cylinder and booster.

Well alot has happened in the past couple of weeks so its time for an update.

Since ive had the car every time the tank was filled it smelt like petrol so a couple of weeks ago i pulled the tank out and replaced all the breather lines and painted it silver with black straps.

Now boosted too.

Fresh repainted rocker cover in original wrinkle red

It is running standard t3 turbo, original exhaust manifold, vlt injectors and computer and gk tech front mount intercooler on 7 psi with the engine still hi comp.
I started the conversion on thursday night and had the car running again by 1:30 am saturday. it is going really well with no issues and drives really smooth.

Now i need to upgrade the drive train starting with the n/a manual gearbox which has lost 5th gear and is quite noisy but still holding on and im looking for a vl 28 spline lsd diff.

How'd you go re-placing the tank?

I've heard it's easy to take down but a bit tricky to put back on.
I'm thinking of doing the same pretty soon.

Rocker cover turned out awesome.

The tank was fairly easy to put back in, i did it by myself with the help of a trolly jack and has no problems getting it in right. The only trouble was getting the rubber grommet on the filler neck back into place.

I picked up an r33 gtst gearbox last weekend to replace the mf5 box which has lost 5th gear and is makeing some bad noises so hopefully i get the rest of the needed parts and put it in soon.

also is back to n/a now due to being on p's and insurance wouldnt cover me in an accident so now i have to wait 18 months till i can turbo it again.

I put in the disc brake diff and vlt booster and master cylinder a couple of weeks ago, it has made a little bit of a differance to stopping but not really noticeable but has lifted the pedal height alot which is what i was after.

diff painted before install

old drum diff out of car

new disc diff in car

only problem is i think the diff centre in this diff is more worn than my old one due to the shuddering when coasting in 2nd or 3rd at low revs.

Yesterday i finished doing the r33 gtst skyline gearbox conversion.
In the conversion i used:
lightweight chromoly fly wheel
exedy 1250kg pressure plate with standard clutch plate
changed the tailshaft slip yoke to vl turbo one
brand new nissan speedo drive
nissan slave cylinder
nismo short shifter

The whole change over went pretty smoothly apart from the holes in the sandwich plate being to small for the new starter motor bolts but that was quickly sorted.

It is now like driving a new car with no gearbox whine and having 5th gear again and the short shifter is shorter than i imagined but i am getting used to it now.

Next on the list of things to do is build up a decent diff and tidy up some more bits and pieces in the interior but it is slowly getting to where i want it.

I brought another vl a few months ago to do up as a daily and it is now finally on the road so this has been retired from daily dutys. The turbo set up is back on now with the changes of afm in cooler pipeing and running airbox (or dose pipe) instead of pod filter. The diff is also out of it at the moment getting a mini spool installed till i can afford to build a 28 or 31 spline with a tru trac centre. Ill post up some photos of when it is all back together again.

The mini spooled diff went in about a month ago, it is abit of fun but terrible for normal driving so a 31 spline tru trac with billet axles is next on the list to go in.

As it sits at the moment

Also picked up a couple of turbo hubcaps, one is nos in original packet and one needs a bit of attention, i am after a set for a decent price if anyone wants to sell any.

A pic of my new daily that is due for a repaint some time this year in original colours

I will have to get a decent camera one day and get up some quality shots.
