Duration of Threads in For Sale Section

Hi mods,

Not sure hence the post,

How long, if any, is the duration of threads in the for sale section, and are they then deleted regardless or not if the item has been sold?

I've noticed a lot of old threads with for sale items that have and haven't been sold and just thought it would be a good idea for older threads to be deleted.

some of us have thought that too but it was also thought that old ads provided a reference point for people to check out past sales, history of cars and cars generally

if someone specifically asks I'll remove an ad but generally we keep them there and they make their way down into the depths of the old pages

That's a valid point but I doubt you can use a price from over 2 years ago as a benchmark though.

Thanks for the reply aus.

AVL, they're often handy for owners later down the track or even potential purchasers to compare for sale ads, find out extra info etc.

As for price being a benchmark... I've got no idea what you're referring to there.

Point taken. On other car forums once a car is sold or the owner has a change of heart the thread is deleted, this makes all the threads fresh and informs the buyer that item has a good chance it isn't sold.

Regarding the second part, what i'm merely suggesting is looking at older threads and to use those prices as a starting point, benchmark, to compare prices etc when looking at pricing an item to sell.

we lock threads when there's a sale however my experience is many don't notify anyway so lots of threads remain open

imho our for sale section is a bit messy but that's due in part to the number of swap offers made. Once someone posts a swap offer there's usually lots more posted shortly after, regardless of whether the seller wants a swap or not

so if we could get more people to report sales and buyers to not post so many random swap offers things would be more as you suggest

lol... about 8 years ago (yes.. 8 years ago), I was wrecking a Calais... I *still* get calls about it.

"do you still have the interior?"
-"no mate, got sold 8 years ago"
"oh.. what about the calais nose cone"
-"no mate, got sold 8 years ago, there is nothing left"
"oh... then why is it still on the site?"
-"have you seen the date of the post?"
"oh.. *click* *click* geez.. thats old!... know anyone selling a calais interior?"
-"no"
"oh.. know anyone selling a calais nose cone then?"
-*hangup*

Being a mod, I did end up deleting the thread myself.

I know boostloosing has a funky interface where people can mark items as "Sold" themselves and it will remove it from the normal "for sale" searches, however, can still be seen if you so wanted to see the "sold" items for reference.

Probably need a forum upgrade before we can look at anything like that though.

That's a good idea InsaneVL

Mark the items as sold and they can then be archived in a separate folder. I reckon everything sold and anything older than one year that hasn't been bumped should be archived
