what is meant by "tag"? is there some kind of identification plate on the diff itself? if so, where is it? if not, how can i verify which diff i have? also, what is "v5w" suspension? is that the same as FE2???

Yes there is a tag hanging from one of the bolts on the diff cover. V5W is the optional raised "country pack" suspension, FE2 is the optional low suspension.

The diffs also can be identified by a sticker on the axle tube containing a two letter code.

there is also a letter and number on the VIN plates also that tells you if its LSD or not...

I think its like G3 i think it is for non LSD 28 spline 4 pinion..

It depends if you have an LSD or not. Non-LSD is GM3, and LSD I think is G80. The codes on the VIN plates have nothing to do with splines or pinions.

The LSD code G80 does not appear on your compliance plates. It was used on the vehicle broadcast data sheet.

Hey i went under my car just then and the diff says 92030908 (which by the system above should make it a "V5W or FE2 sedan turbo"), my car is clearly not a turbo (@#$%#@!!) and it also has disc factory rear discs, which this code would indicate it does not have.
Also, as a BT1, shouldnt my car have an LSD?? or are bt1's an exception to the above code rules?

any ideas, im so so confused haha

No dammit, BT1's DO NOT HAVE LSD STANDARD!!!!!

With regards to your diff, if that is the ID number then you have a diff originally out of a turbo. All turbo models have rear discs standard. Or you might just be lucky, and scored a BT1 that had a turbo diff in it. BT1's all had disc brake diffs, I've never checked out whether they were turbo spec diffs or not.

I had someone tell me once that a few limited VLs came out with a detroit locker style centre in them (Turbo of course). It sounds a bit far fetched, but it wouldn't be the first factory car to come out with a detroit locker.

I was told my car had LSD when I bought it, but the tag suggested it was just a standard disc brake diff. Confirmed this when I changed the oil, spun one wheel, other spun in opposite direction. Oh well, not like I need it anyway.

The V8 diff codes are not listed above or even in the Holden Service manual V8 section.
