hey mate, your vl's coming along nicely, good stuff.

I'm looking at building a parcel shelf similar to what you have, where abouts can you buy that carpet from? Is it special automotive carpet?

cleaned out all the lifters and engine was still rattling. So got a skyline wagon as a donor and did an engine swap over the weekend cranked first try . no more rattling but it is misfiring at high revs, thinking spark plug gap might be to big and/or my CAS because the plug/wires are super dodgy so might re wire the connector with the plug from the skyline.

the dodgy donor skyline

engine coming out of the skyline

engine coming out of the VL

playing swap the bolt ons

getting the spigot bush out

new engine in

mission success

anyone know where i can get the missing piece of vacationer sticker !??!

Took the VL out last year for some gymkhana runs and it was smoking like a chimney. Melted or damaged number 1 spark plug somehow. The rest were all fine so need to do a compression test on that and see if its damaged.

Also smokey problem turned out to be the turbo seals so got to decide what to do now. Find another 25det one off trademe or get a something a little bigger. Any know if these are absolute duds

its not to hard to change just dont swap the gears sets
just swapping the centres is straight foward

some visual progress. took the axles out on my way towards getting the centre out.
got the brake stone guards and brackets at work getting bead blasted to clean the whole lot up. hopefully i can get the diff blasted and painted at work as well.

If i have axles out and just make some plates to bolt on over holes should be alright for bead blasting ?

Nah i can get bead blasting done for a packet of biscuits at work, so I put steel plates over the axle holes with a bit of gasket glue and sealed up the centre cover plate so should be good to go. say good bye to crusty looking diff !

Now the question is do i clean the hell out of the underside of the car and respray with underbody stuff or does that start a domino effect of where to stop. Also what new bushings do/should i get ??

In the process of giving the brakes and overhaul before i chuck them back on the rear end. pain in the ass to get the calipers out but got there in the end. Ill get the blasted up, paint them and put some new seals in should look good.

Got new solid brake lines made up for the rear as well. Dont know what colour i should paint then, was thinking silver or dark gold will look good with the black diff ?

Also thinking i might buy the braided lines set off trademe for all 4 corners while im at it
