^^^good man. It happened to mate up here in NSW, got caute speeding in his VY commodore & got it crushed without a second chance.
Also, is it just me or does AUS880 seem to always try to stire ****... typical...

I've never seen anyone get killed due to doing burnouts here, it's just a big revenue raiser just like almost everything else they do, they don't actually care about our safety... they just want your money.

Static burnouts = Non deadly, something would have to go drastically wrong for someone to get seriously injured or killed

Drifting = Dangerous, and stupid on main roads, do it by yourself in an industrial area, and all you'll hurt is your self

I would love to see evidence from a death caused by a static or crawling burnout which was due to the actual burnout itself, not people walking up to the car.

Also if burnouts are so dangerous, why hasnt anyone been killed on the cruise route of Summernats?

I agree with everyone in this thread saying that these laws = bull****. The inconsistent abuse of power by the cops is a load of crap, and we only have the government to blame. Overtaking someone from 70-100kph on the freeway is not hooning but the police have the power to discipline and label us as hoons. Whats worse is the fact that they can take your car off the road for something as simple as a farking catch can while trucks with there diesel engines are spitting out black **** into the atmosphere, biggest load of **** if you ask me. Best thing you can do is drive like a grandma and hope the cops dont pull you over(which they always do no matter how you drive) because it looks like these laws are here to stay.

heres a quote straight from the australian governments website
Quote:
It is fundamental to the administration of justice in Australia that a person accused of a criminal offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt.
yet they can seize your property on the spot upon a single officers opinion of what a hoon act is and even if you were to get an expensive lawyer and win in court your car's already been impounded leaving you without a vehicle for that period of time and fees paid etc and there's no way they would re-reimburse that. in some cases they are giving out convictions for 1st offences too.

time to get some perspective

people get bail refused every day for criminal offences where there's sufficient evidence, losing your liberty is far worse than simply having your car taken off you for a while

police mates of mine have impounded cars for burnouts/street racing etc, they've got them cold on video doing it, sometimes from fully marked cars

the guys getting caught aren't very bright and maybe aren't suitable as drivers on public roads

Darkstar, it's taking the weapon away from the driver just like confiscating guns from a person who has shot people
the person is penalised too via fines etc but the car is taken out of the equation

yeh there'll be grey areas but maybe people will think twice before they lend a car to an idiot

re a possible increase in cowards running, that is unproven heresay esp considering laws have been in place in other states for a while and there is no evidence to back that up.
Guns don't kill people. Idiots kill people

I dont know about u guys but if i was on my 3rd strike and got caught "hooning" i wouldnt be pulling over! I would rather take my chances and make a run for it rather than give those ****s the satisfaction of taking my car. And if all else fales id rather put it sideways in to a power pole than hand it over to po po in one peice. Seriously put ur self in the position, ur on your last strike, u spin the wheels goin thru a roundabout in the wet cops behind u boom lights on, u know your car is gone 4 good would you stop? What do u have to loose by trying to get away? U have a whole lot to loose by pulling over!!

Do u think doing a runner is going to prevent them from seizing the car at a later date? they have your rego number, where you live, your name.. where u work.. they'll catch up with you sooner or later. Also out running a new 6.0litre SS isnt the easiest thing on crudy Victorian roads Id imagine - especially in a VLT with only 3 or 2 gears lol.

said it once and i willl say it again.

this s*** scares me.

i know i probably won't get done and its a lot of scare tactics BUT. i also know that its guilty until proven innocent and in the meantime the accused has to front the cash AND because of the media / legal position they are in, don't have any sympathy heading their way.

---------- Post added 12-08-10 at 11:34 ----------

realities -

most people charged under hoon laws are speeders.
these offenders were the initial target for the laws.
yes what russ said re the idiots who always get caught is true.

regardless the modified car community on large is concerned with any law change as they feel like a victimised minority.
