Just helped put an 25/30 combo together. Nothing to flash but used the spool combo they have offered. Stock 25 head welded up etc. Main and head studs, cosworth MLS head gasket. It only has a 30/40 on it at the moment and it should do 500 FWHP with that turbo and that will be its limit. Probably go to a 35r or GT42 at a later date.

If money is no issue (ahaha..Suuuure it isn't).. Do this:

Buy RB26DETT
Go buy stuff from http://www.osgiken.net/products/specialparts.html
Bolt it all together and go nuts..

Retain all the cool stuff from the 26, but with the added goodness of 3L of displacement.

Ooootherwise, if you don't have about $14k to spare on the above.. Go with building your 25, as you can erk heaps of power out of them anyway without needing to build an RB30DET

i should be picking up another box once i get the exhaust manifold studs out of the head.

No idea exactly on cost, alot of the work I didn't pay for or organise and all the parts where at trade or I had laying around. It will really depend on what parts you get yourself/how much work you do yourself.

Nothing bad about forging the 25 but as always more cubes is always better. That extra half a litre makes a worthwhile difference.

Hey dude, can you use the rb30 crank in the 25 bottom?
wouldn't that make it the same as an rb30 bottom, then no need to swap blocks!
Been wondering this, unless clearances are different in the gulley!?

Not to sure about the crank swap mate but would be good but I think once u machined it to a 3ltr they would be no meat between the piston walls

The height difference does make a difference to, its the reason my torana project has taken forever, mates 33 is hard up on strut bar because of extra height and all the 25/30 vl's are extremely close to bonnet to.

Theres nothing wrong with a built 25 bottom end, the only advantage of using the 30 block is torque. They don't have as good oil flow though.

Saying that you should really buy my 26 head though, no head mods needed, factory solid cams/lifters and flow alot more stock!

I can fix your height issue in the 33 if you like. I have designed a set of lowered engine mounts so it sits in the 33 bay much much easier.

oh ok! thanks for the info!

i thought as the bore was the same, it's just the stroke(crank) that makes it the 3L!?

werd to that mate, theres no point going the 30 block unless you really need that extra torque, same with the 26 head... the 25 head will easily flow the same as a stock 26 head with a bit of porting and the solid cams/lifters only make a difference with high hp cars.

If you can get a ride in a 25/30 or 26/30 before hand. I personally think the extra cubes are worthwhile. You can make 300rwkw day in day out on a factory 25 bottom end. That extra half litre helps spool large turbos more than you think.

Mate i have a vl and i started off with a rb25 in it and drove it for about a year or so it had a 3037s on it and the bottom end was done with a standard head it made 300kw and went hard. Now i have a 25/30 in it and would never go back the torque and response is good and it allows you to have power off boost and with some pon cams you can make some big power.
