VK - RB30 Conversion

Hi guys, My brother's 202 in his vk is just about dead. so, I suggested dropping an rb30 in it and using the vl auto gearbox that we have lying around(Most probably will swap the dash too).

As far as i know, VL's and VK's are quite similar and was wondering if someone could let me know what exaclty needs to be swapped over and whether or not it will be a pain in the ass/too expensive in comparison to getting the 202 rebuilt.

cheers, Lauren

First thing that springs to mind is:

Is the VK an injected 202 or carby?

If it's carby, pretty sure you'd need to run a return line and fuel pump changes as well.

As for the rest, should be *Fairly* straight forward..

you'll need to change the K frame and maybe mod the trans mount.
would be alot easier to just grab a VL donor car as you will need the full loom

U will have problem with the way the fuse box is set up n a Vk toa Vl , n need to put a Vl dash if u won't to use the Vl cluster , tailshaft will be a direct fit if ur not running a salsbury diff . U will need to change petrol tank as Vks don't have internal pump. There more but can't remember it all now

seems like a lot of hassle for not alot of benefits
swap diff
rear brakes if the vl ones are ****ed
tailshaft
box
motor
kframe
hook up suspension to kframe
wiring
dash
fuel pump
efi lines

or just buy another 202 for next to nothing and do the swap in a day

hey guys thanks for all your help, have spoken with my brother and hes keen to go ahead with the conversion. Xhibitor, my bro's VK has a blue 202 in it not a black (hence why i stated that its a blue 202, mr know it all).

and Caibs, i know it seems like a lot of hassel but he dont want a show car and most things on the vk are getting pretty sloppy.

my bro is pretty clueless and tight when it comes to spending money on his car but he wants the better option all the time. so if its gonna cost him around $400 for everything he needs for the conversion to a fuel injected rb30 from a blue carby 202, He's gonna go for it! we priced up a new carby for it for $300 not including everything else he will need to do to it.
So if its gonna cost $100 more for the conversion and some man hours for a better setup which he can turbo (if he wants later on), to me... that sounds like a better option.

PLUS! we like the RB30's!
