Shifter modification

Hey guys

I have a vlct with a rb25 and a 300zx manual gearbox. The shifter stick it has on it now is pretty crappy. It is sloppy as and doesn't align properly like a car normally would to help you change gears, ie 2nd to 3rd doesn't just slot in you have to manually try find the right spot. The shifter has been modified and has a uni joint in place which is just a dodgey job.

I need to know where to go get a new shifter installed that will suit and modified so it works properly.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do, buy or where to go?

i have the same problem i got vernia calipers and measures the plastic bit on the end shifter that slides into the gear box and i also measured the gear box and found i needed a bigger plastic insert or i was going to machine up a brass bush to take away the slop but then found that i had a mf5 shifter in and i needed a mx7 so maby buy a 300z shifter and chop off the bottom half and weld a vl top half on ???

I was thinking about like you said chopping it then welding

couple of questions...

Would I use the 300zx shifter bushes and washers or the ones that come with the VL shifter.

And does it make a difference that it has the rb25 in it?

yeah you would use all the 300z lower half and chop it off and just weld pretty much the vl stick on its shouldnt make a difference

also shaun i dont know how much use to you this is, but i do have an mx7 shifter, you can borrow it if it will be a better fit, untill you find a better suiting one, pop over on thursday if you want to check if it is any good to you, at the very least seing as i have an mx7 shifter on hand, and an r33 shifter in my car, we could probably sus which is more likely to be in your box.

dont the z32's run a remote shifter that sits a bit further back?
33 job should do the trick (so i guess mx7 might too?)
