VR / VS Door Speaker Pods in a VL, Opinions/Info/Tips

Hey I'm wanting to get new speakers for the front of my VL and was wondering on peoples opinions of the VR / VS door speaker pods to fit some 6" speakers into the doors, have people that have done it got any info/tips to make the job easy? Or how do they sit, is it uncomfortable now with the pod near your leg. I've already bought some grey VR / VS pods just not sure whether I use them with some splits putting the tweeter in the dash or just to go for some decent 4" speakers in the dash? Thanks

iv got some in mine... just measure it up right on the door trims with the door closed, as they gotta be in just the right poistion. i didnt bother putting those big black spacers in, just cut some wood up or buy some spacers. otherwise its a big **** around. or at least it was for me on my old door trims lol

i dont find them annoying.

Well i went ahead with putting these on and went a pair of clarion splits, woofer in the door and tweeter in the dash in the original position, also built a parcel shelf out of 16mm MDF and put in some clarion 6"x9"s all to go with the new clarion head unit that I can wirelessly play my music from my iphone on and also make calls through.

This it what it looks like the flash makes the shade difference worse!

Nice headunit MxPx VL, i got the same one

I did it on my VL. I got 2 VR/VS door pods and 2 black factory spacers from the wreckers all for $40.
I unfortunatly dont have pics... It not hard, just a fair bit of work. The final product is better than any after market spacers, maintainging a stock-as-possible look, as vls obviously didnt have door speakers from the factory...

Its not too hard, just involves alot of custom work and alot of double checking to make sure everything it right. You will need to make a few cardboard templates to get all the spacing and measurments right, one good example is where you need to transfer the screw holes on the back of the door pods to the face of the door trim.
If you like i'll write it all up step by step as best i can...

(To eventually be repsrayed door trim blue and blue carpet inlayed)
.

I sat in the car with the door closed and lined up where I wanted the pod to sit and clear the window winder, then marked it with pencil, then after removing the door trims, I used toothpicks in the screw holes to mark on the door trim where they lined up, drilled very small holes through the door trim where the marks where and screwed the pod on from the back. This gave me an idea where the speaker had to sit and cut the door to fit the magnet, I think I bought those round spacers to lift the speaker away from the door so it didn't go in to deep, can't really remember.
