hehe i believe you after today, popped in to see my car, was so interested looking at his recent work that i didnt look up untill he mentioned your car haha, sitting up on the hoist lording it all over mine hehe. bit of a bummer the situation there with yours, but i guess thats what you become accustomed to dealingwith at a higher performance level.

looks sick, hope you dont mind but i had a walk around yours with lee, didnt get to look inside because mine was under yours and it couldnt come down, but its so tiday, the paint is in great condition too. i much prefer your numberplate centred at the front. whole car is neat as, big fan.

some more pics of mine from today

Lee made the front pipe, its welded to the airbox, had to cut out the 3inch size hole to get rid of the nasty lip in there, was a c**t of an angle, but im very happy with how it ended up, much better than the fat double elbow joins that some people do, or the silicone joiner S that some other have.

brake master/booster is in, big chunky bracket with some big bolts too, should be great, would tear a hole in the strut before the firewall got to flex haha

also im very happy with how this ended up:

coilpacks are mounted in a row on a bracket that is bolted to the block! ninja styles, doesnt come up in the photo, which is good really, means they are hard to see, also iphones dont have flash :/

more crappy iphone pictures of the fuel setup in the boot, walbro lift into surge tank, into 2 044s into a y into a filter then down under the car thru freshly made larger diameter fuel line into braid then into the rail.

magna flow muffler, pretty exciting bit of kit:

and to finish of a last couple of bay snaps:

pretty much everything is in, mr sanders is doing me up a 3.5 inch exhaust from the dump back, its got a 3 inch dump, im fairly certain there isnt much of a performance upgrade here, since its going from 3inch all the way, but the old exhaust was tired and a new one would be better, with the magnaflow muffler and a dummy cat installed. 3inch should be all i really need though for the moment, since i do have a screamer there shouldnt be a problem with exhaust flow, but having a 3.5 inch there for when i want to upgrade to a 3.5inch dump makes a lot more sense than making up a brand new 3inch now.

now it just needs a bit of wiring and tune, and a catchcan made up, and she'll be ready for a run in tune

thats all for now, shouldnt be too long though, should be ready just in time to coincide with uni going back haha, bummer, but i cant wait right now...
Jack

Hey Jack, awesome to see your car is nearing the end of its build. Bet you can't wait to get into it and do some driving. Well done on the progress so far and goodluck with the running in. Lee looks as though he has done everything that you have asked, which is fantastic. Keep up the good work.

visualy, the plenum isnt too appealing, but the numbers are, flows way more cfm than any other rb30 plenum i've read about, i was reading up and apparently you lose a little response and low down torque but have high end hp gains, so we'll just have to see, slightly larger plenum, 1.06 rear, im worried about what 1st gear will be like...

everything is all hooked up now, pretty much they just need to finish the wiring, and make the exhaust and its all ready to kick over, then its off for a tune... then i need to try and remember how to put the dash back together, been almost a year since i pulled it apart!

thanks mate, it is coming along well, with no real setbacks as of yet, im hoping that wont mean that ill have all the setbacks in the 1st week of driving it haha, somethings bound to go wrong, just hope it is small.

well, the 1.06 rear, coupled with the SPP plenum, and a manual transmission, im expecting a pretty high power figure for 35r. lee reckons it should see 420rwhp at 20psi... i dont really have that many cars to compare it to in wa, so i'll just wait and see, the cam is quite a big one, bit of a custom job tx3, so hoping that will help spin more horses out, but we'll just have to wait and see.

i would be dissapointed if it had anything less than 400rwhp on its street tune...
i am hoping the car will do 450rwhp when its fully tuned up, at like 22 or 23psi, but theres every chance it wont, so that would be ok, just provided it has more than 400hp haha.

at the end of the day im not interested in trying to get an extra 20 hp out of it if it will ruin the cars performance, so i'll be happy if its fast, i have a feeling that compared to its 7psi std turbo past, this is going to feel nuts.

still going to have to run it in though, should be nice and boring.

wouldn't get too carried away with figures.

just be happy with 400rwhp on a low reading dyno, autos get this fairly easily and I can't see why a manual would have an issue.

1 dyno could read 380rwhp, the next dyno could read 420rwhp or whatever...so who knows!

Genki is correct with regards to dyno figures. You seem to be placing too much emphasis on figures. Dyno figures can be quite different from one shops dyno to another. Plus peak dyno figure is easy to peak higher than actual car is capable of on the street. Not to mention the torque curve can vary also. More torque and less power can still be a faster car than less power and more torque in some instances.

Just don't pin your hopes on the dyno reading alone. Wait till its done, get your max hp and then do a run down the quarter and see how it goes or go driving on the street and use the 'seat of the pants' feeling for how strong the car feels.

I know of a tuner who puts more emphasis on engine longevity than peak hp on dyno. But obviously some customers demand a certain hp reading. So the tuner will get the car to this hp reading by altering timing or leaning mixtures momentarily and/or adjusting load on dyno, but then after that run, the lean mixture is put back to a safe level along with timing for longevity especially if the car is going to be street driven in varying conditions.

Dyno figures are a guide only!

i know guys i know, but when people want to hear about it, all i have to offer is a rough proposed power figure, i cant say omg man my car is going to feel so fast, or give any idea what it will run on the 1/4 (my guess is lots of 13s for a while with me behind the wheel and a 5 speed under it).

power is all i have to discuss untill i get it back, oh and the fact that the big tx3 should sound evil

oh and matt i spoke to graham a couple of weeks ago, he was very adamant that the end number on the dyno means nothing, and its all about how it all works together in the real world, and on the strip. tbh thats all i care about, but untill then i cant comment on the general performance of how i think the car will run, i can only comment on the horsepower figure i am expecting the car to output.

i agree everyone does put too much emphasis on horsepower, but at the end of the day you still do need a sizable chunk of power to get to the goals we set.

Graham and I learnt long ago about dynos and what the figures mean. One of Graham's vl turbos, silver in colour, quite a few years ago ran 11.4sec 1/4 mile with only 327rwhp. That thing was animal and a freak. I ran a 12.3sec in my white formula turbo a few years ago using foot brake with 300rwhp.

I hear you Jack with regards to people wanting power figure. But I would just wait and see and be happy with what it achieves when the time comes to do a full power tune.

You have invested a huge amount of $$$$ and time. I can't wait to see the outcome of your build, and I wish you goodluck and no major dramas which Graham and I have seen over the years.

My chaser's dyno figure when I got it was 380rwhp @ 22psi on a T04Z, god knows the exhaust AR, but it's still pretty punchy when it gets going (4k rpm it gets up and really goes to the red line from there).

As a couple of the guys on here can confirm (Sorry!), it blows a nice black cloud when it does that too due to overfueling.

As some others have said, the high HP figures are impressive, but unless it's got the torque to match it, you do kinda waste some of that power.

My thoughts on it would be to get it tuned and running well, run it in, then see how it goes and how it suits your driving, whether it's a strip or track setup. At the end of the day, HoldenOn's right on the money, and you could end up with some freak of a car with "only" 400rwhp that flies along at 11ty billion mph.

well i intend to have it tuned by mick at ovaboost, or mick? at rotormotion.

i know those guys dont **** around to get the highest hp figures, they do good tunes and make some seriously quick cars

as far as everything i've researched they are the best 2 sor for vls, with mick at ovaboost having done a few more vls, i might be wrong, but just from what i've read i got the idea most people went to ovaboost.
