Cam in a rotary hahaha

Anyway. Today I picked up the head from PowerHouse Engines. Was I rapped. Here's the invoice of the work done & some photo's. I feel like a little boy finding $10 on the side of the road, so I can buy some candy.

Do you think that's expensive. It's been fully tested.

no you were charged 320 for a second hand head then another 300 for basic reco.i payed $50 for my second hand head then spent $130 pressure testing/cleaning and facing it then had a freind asemble it.

your invoice sounds funny or is it just me?you were charged for a basic reco $300 then charged all that extra to have the other stuff added upon a basic reco if that makes sence.so it sounds like to me they reco'd a standard head then ripped it down and put the good gear in????

and thats way to much for the head in my opinion lol

What happened was, I'd taken my head in to have a wade cam installed. But they found cracks between to valves and spark plug holes.
So I had another spare head. I'd taken one in and was also rejected as it had weld marks on the top inside of the head, also was warped. Both of them where no good for high HP. So he brought a good second hand head which has been tested for alloy weakness/softening.
To have a full race spec engine for $6,680 is a good price I reckon.

just incase someone jumps the gun man im not haven a dig but i just hate how shops put money ontop you no your head looks killer!!! but for 3k fk me you would want a solid cam and adjustable lifters i got told for soooo long that u cant do a gtr head under 5 k i just laughed!! 5 k was like base and 10k was the ducks !!

i will post up a price list in 2 secs when i grade it off my other lappy

---------- Post added 11-04-10 at 17:57 ----------

billet cams 800
valve springs with ti retainers 600
stainless valves/exorst stainless + nitride treatment 620 i think they worked out to be 24 each including postage
head with stock plenum and butterflys 700 (i have had it for almost 2-3 years)
machine valve seats 80 (machinest ****ed up and quoted me 80 instead of 160)
head studs half inch where i think 280 not sure ill ask vpw but they where less then 300
head gaskit 280 (metal)
head cheek include crack testing ra ra ra 200 odd
hks cam gears 330 i payed for them then the supplyer told me they where on back order from hks and wont expect them till june...i cracke the fking ****s and told the cnt how do u let me pay for something then tell me there on back order so he offerd me the tomei ones at the same price and express posted them!! i was rapped as i was talking to sticks and he imformed me the hks only has 3 locking points wheres the tomei ones have 5

i also need some more machining dont to the head when these fking cams arive

and there will be another cost with setting the head up as the gtr head uses bucket and shim setup but you can use a 1 peice setup out of a toyta 4 cylinder disel but they are about 30 odd bucks each from used parts toyota

Well I've place the head on & seems to be running rich.(little bit of back smoke coming out of exhaust). Would it be fine to drive around for a little bit? Have to drive from Gippsland to Mentone for a tune, would it be OK for the trip? Should I just turn the boost down until tune?

Hi Guys,
Quick question, l have the wade 1147c cam, which will be going in this week and it says to "machine .053 off top of the lifter housing", is it compulsory to do so or can l get away without machining the lifter housings?

If l don't machine the lifter housings is it still ok to run as is?
cheers

My car has been at a workshop for some time now finally getting a dyno tune. But they said it was detonating. They couldn't figure out the problem. Then they where telling me the valves might be hitting the piston's. Is this heard of. Basic engine package is. Percision motor sport HP conrods, ACL race series forged pistons, wade 1147c, ACL MLS gasket & Manley stainless steel valves. I've never had this problem with a standard cam, at the end of the day we where totally confused & the car still sits there not tuned lol.

If they can't work that out mate, get your car and go elsewhere. Sound like complete ****ing idiots.. if a piston kissed a valve you would know about it.

Yeah I wish I could. The Bill is allready 2 grand lol. Anyway I dropped into the engine builder today & he said they should have retarded the cam because if it was hitting the valves. The intake valves sit lower than the exhaust valves. So I'm going to have the tuner speak to the engine builder.

Not if it kisses lightly, my brother had a motor built about 12-13yrs ago, and they never checked piston to valve clearance, at 8500rpm they where just touching he found out when he pulled it down to look at headgasket a few thousand km's later. It did a fair bit of damage but at the time still ran fine and made no noises
