Id go LS1 if i was to do my building time again.

Brett, your setup and now johnny's setup is a well known build mate, but that alone, i don't know too many other setup's still alive and kicking.

Id love to take any of you VL boys and girl's from a drive in Cameron's T51r turbo ed manaro, makes 580hp on 9psi... you'd shiit your pants and its just a stock Ls1 with valve springs. (has popped 4 times but only cos single 044 and camo drives the wheels off it)

Now that power in a VL is something else....

Haha what gets me is that due to a few motors back in the VTII range needing rebuilds, everyone has this tainted view of the LS1. It's as if people think that Holden/GM engineers noted the problem but didn't think to do anything about! Ignorance is bliss though, I guess.

Car will be tough, richie...

a motor is only as good as its built. Rb's are fine if built properly. I turned a bearing in mine but the post moretom revealed the machinest did not do what he was paid for.

and simple math can explain that a 5L turbo will make good power compared to a RB its over 50% more capacity. plus its spread over 8 cylinders so less stress on each cylinder.

any motor making over 90-100hp per cylinder is going to need to be well built and looked after in the tuning department

richie if you don't mind me asking, how much is it costing to get the LS1 into the vl, then running?

and why the hell is the term "RB" even being mentioned in here...if I wanted reliable 'turn key' power, I wouldn't even look twice at an RB motor

Well its costing me not that much really. it will be around 5 - 6 k mark inc motor and parts.

My VL is not my everyday driver , my VL is my hobby car. I have 2 other cars. So 3 cars in total. I just want to start getting some enjoyment out of my VL as its done more K's on a tow truck then on the road when it was a 26/30. So when everyone asks, How much for this and that , I really dont give a F**k. Coz at the end of the day , if I blow it up , I'll build it stronger. You know why , coz I F**kn can.

What the picture says.........
Still waiting for my engine mounts...... , Should also have the box back next week.

Then the fun begins...

Only time will tell.

PCM is the engines ECU. Yes I have done my homework on the setup.
l'm pigsy's close mate so my facts are rite ,and you did use the head gasket to many times, if you used a new 1, it wouldnt have stuffed your motor last time would it have now

well i must be pretty lucky. but i claim a good tuner is the real reason.
I have built 4 others over the years(two 30/25's qnd 2 straight 30's) and they are all still going today all making around 550 on the same dyno at dysons.
all tuned by dyson. and machined by one machine shop.
i have never popped an engine either ,just head gaskets in my early days on my own car.

and camerons thing dosent reflect that kind of power that it is making, so must just be a dyno figure.
sounds good though!!
cant argue with the sound of a turbo v8.

Sorry , you dont have the right facts. The motor was built by pigsy brother.
The head gasket was never used twice. I did blow a head gasket, but it was replaced with a new one. Its better to ask me , then hear it from someone else.

fact is, i know it was pigsy's brother that built it and he was upset to hear about it blowing up, because it was one of the first rb30's he had done and he put alot of effort into it to make sure it was perfect.

I dont give a f**k what you know.

Yes I did run a STD GTR head gasket. Yes it made 640hp on a STD head gasket. Yes I did blow a head gasket. Yes it was the STD GTR one. NO I didnt re use it. Yes I took the head back to pigsy's brother to straighten and port the head. There was nothing wrong with the bottom end , until I got it tuned at a workshop.

I never doubt'd robbie's work. He's a champion and a really good engine builder. When this Ls1 goes pop I will be taking it to him to build.

I dont know why the f**k I have to explain something to someone who thinks they know MY own build.

lol troy
loving his 2jness

the proof is in the pudding (or however that saying goes lol) with the LS1s!
TUFCAB runs a standard LS1 with valve springs and pumps our 400rwkw+ on low boost with a carb setup! and already have a built driveline and fuel system makes things much easier

looking forward to the results

so where exactly does a 2j reach the point with a standard block where the power is "a lot" .... given that 600rwkw apparently isn't "a lot" of power...?

You dont bring your car out anyway J.

Do it. You boys ever want to see something good on a friday nite, then drive next to jonny at 60mph on the logan and watch it go from gaurd rail to gaurd rail, thats what i call power.

Race cars not dyno's. if it has plates, drive it on the road.

Or just sit at home and watch "home and away"

a std 2j block can handle alot more than 600rwkw before it needs concrete ect

ryan woons latest 6spd car runs 1406rwhp (not sure what type of dyno) and has no concrete what so ever in it
and thats just boost alone, no gas
