Siroller's Latest Install - Vy

hey fellas heres my latest soundsystem (in the build)

standard vy acclaim wagon
+ vy ss 18"s
- badges

cd player -DXZ776USB
clarion
24 bitt DAC
mp3 / wma / cd / cdr / cdrw / fm / am / aux in / usb
2 sets of pre outs + 1 set of sub pre outs
slideface!

this was installed with an ebay special dna install kit, pretty easy when you figure out not to use the cradle!

ok we also have a lightning audio wiring kit. so far consisting of -
3 x rca's
1 x power wire 4ga (run through the main wiring harness plug in firewall)
1 x earth wire 4ga (earthed into seatbelt mount)
2 x distribution blocks (1 earth 1 power)
2 x 8ga power leads from dissy block to amps
2 x 8ga earth leads from dissy block to amps

finally the subbro!

its a 45 series MTX sledgehammer in an MTX genuine sledgehammer box.
450wmax
250wrms

powered by a 250wrms monoblock MTX amp (dont have box or anything to know what it is!)

currently there is no 4ch or aftermarket front / rear speakers.

future plans -
kicker 4ch - ZX350.4
mb quart splits discus front - DSF216
expert coaxials rear - EKA116

i have all of the above aswell as dynamet which will look after the ront and rear doors. i may also need to make some mdf mounts. i really CBF but i will realistically have to to get good sound.

future future plans -
step 1 - 1x jaycar 1000w monoblock + 1 x dd1012 (entry level) digital designs 12" 1800wmax 450wrms
step 2 - 1 x jaycar amp 2 x dd 12"
step 3 - 2 x jaycar amp 2 x dd 12"

subs will be in their own sealed enclosures and wired up fior stereo sound. operating at about 6-800 power through the jaycars should be heaps.

comments and questions welcome - Mitcham

psara - 5 whats your name man?

i am honestly not 100% sure i was quoted the numbers by a mate who currently owns a dd sub running the same d class jaycar amp as i plan on using and he is buying 2 x entry level 10"s. so they are (apparently) dd10's then the size. eg. i want 2 dd10 12s and he wants 2 dd10 10s. power seems a bit odd but eh, wmax isn't that important. its no weirder than sony subs which are 250rms and 1000wmax.

nah its actually a carwash in knox... and its just a daily so i will be leaving it pretty much as is mechanically and visually. when the car is sold i think i will also leave in the soundsystem, apart from the sub and amps that is (this is a company car as i am employed by my parents, yes i am a spoiled brat but i pay rego and insurance aswell as rent and bills.) patch if you want a hand shoot me a pm, been there done that and i can save you a lot of broken plastics!

andrew, my mate has the best sub i have ever heard hence why i want to go DD. as i think i said on the mea forums, i dont want more spl (although i will have it at the twist of a knob) i just want more response and a wider range. i realise jaycar isn't the best amp but hey like i said i am a uni student and i am bloody lucky to be given such a nice car.

DD's entry level stuff isn't that high powered, but it still puts out a fair punch. In the right box, some bloke has achieved 140+db with a DD1012 using a 300wrms amp. For an entry level sub, that's insane.
Only thing is, you'll be sacrificing a bit of sound quality if you starting running DD gear. They're really built more for sound pressure levels than sound quality.

in a sealed enclosure and at low power the entry level dds should produce more kick and a wider frequency range than my mtx can play. also i say i am after quality but by that i mean pretty low level sq. it still has to be stealth and installed in stock positions and with no rear shelf and the rear speakers in the doors of the vy wagon there is no way the positioning of speakers is going to impress any sq buff!

oh and i asked around the code is actually dd15 **

** - diameter of sub in this case 12"

Pity you're trying to keep it looking stock. You could go all out and make a monster out of this thing. haha.
It's looking really clean though mate. Nice work.

Youll be rapped man. I got a 3512 and it hauls ass. Not the best for quality in a slot ported box, but give it a bit and it'll blow your socks off.

sure will be, a mate had a 9512 and that was the inspiration. he only had it on a jaycar d class so powering it below its wrms rating. mine powered properly should match it... and in a wagon!!

after work today i stopped in at jaycar and got a 12" sub cover and some wiring terminals but i don't know if i will use the terminals now...

gargh ok since 6.30 i have -

gotten kfc
gone to bunnings bought - gaffa tape / no more gaps selleys / bitumen paint / wax and grease remover / rags / wood screws (mdf was not available in the size i wanted)
got home stripped out all the crap from my car.
stripped cargo area and doors (inc speakers / spare wheel / tailgate / dust covers etc)
wax and grease removed all doors and all cargo area
opened up bitumen paint, seems too solid for my needs maybe b/c of the melbourne temp maybe the product. i will return it tommorow, have a squiz at the more liquid stuff and if thats still no good head over to knox carpets where i got my last tin from.
moved onto making cardboard inserts which will later be taped and dynamatted over to enclose the interior side of the doors. pics when they load

amp should arrive tommorow (actually later today its past 12...)
also need to get bitumen paint and mdf. start cutting speaker spacer templates and start soundproofing doors as well as drop sub box components at my builder mates place.

damn, doesn't look like that much work in those pics.

OK Mitch, what's going on. You have red eyes and your buddy is asleep. I know what your smoking.
Looks like the install is coming along well. You'll have to tell us if that sound proofing really works.
Can't wait to see the end result. Have to post some pictures up when finished.
And the graphics on the sub box look wicked.
