The Cheap Mod List To building an 11 sec car, maybe even pull a 10 if u can drive.

Ive seen this question Pop Up on the Forums Time And Time again so ive decided to Post up My View on the Cheapest Build up method to getting Your car into the 11 second bracket.

Turbo: T04e or Larger
(www.gcg.com.au) 2nd hand turbos fully reconditioned can be found here for as low as $900 and a lot are Highflowed eg. T04e/T66s
Depending on the Turbo You buy depends on the boost u can run, most of the 10 second vl’s u see down at the track are running between 20 – 35 PSI on very large turbos.

Wastegate: can be found 2nd hand on forums for as low as $300 or purchases of new around $600+ (45mm + is recommended for high boost)

The Standard Exhaust manifold has proven to be able to run fast times, and can be adapted to allow these larger turbos and Wastegates to be Attached, by Adapter plate for the turbo, and a wastegate bracket welded just above the turbo on the exhaust manifold. Usually costs a couple hundred dollars.

ECU: Microtech Mt8/Lt8 can be Found on E-Bay for around $600, usually Costs Around $300 to wire up. (www.ebay.com) Good Tuneing is a must, and Maztech are very well known for the Microtech Abilitys.

Injectors: 550cc Injectors (Reconditioned Bosch 363s or Denso’s) can be picked up for as low as $150 ea, 363s may need adapting to suite VL fuel rail, tops cut off them to remove O-ring.

Fuel Pump: you can either use 1 of the following setups, ur cheapest way would probably be useing 2 x VL turbo Fuel Pumps with a Surge tank as they can be picked up as low as $50ea off the Forums. or 1 Bosch 044 Pump with Surge tank, or 2 x 910s with Surge tank. ( Surge tanks can be purchased for as low as $100 )

The Standard Fuel Pressure Regulator has seen many cars run into the 10s, but if ur in need of that Little bit more pressure in ur fuel lines u can use a Malpassi Riseing Rate Fuel Reg can be found for around $180 new.

Transmission: Fully Rebuilt Jatco, 3 SPD full manual shift, Transbrake, Cooler ( http://www.keas.com.au/products.asp?tc=6 ) is very sufficient to pull 10 second passes as Proven on AeroVL’s car off the Forums who has the Auto built with the 4 SPD option with transbrake and has run a 10.5 If ur not into the Autos then Give it a Go with a 5spd Manual with strengthened clutch.

Exhaust: 3” Mandrel Bent Exhaust With Custom Dump Pipe $700 new

Intercooler + pipes: PWR front Mount $900( www.PWR.com.au ) Piping can be purchased from as low as $350 or a nice powder coat job around $700 at Bresciani.

The Standard Inlet Manifold has Proven to be capable of 10 second passes, but will need the addition of a XF throttle Body to allow just that little bit more.

Catch Can to allow big boost with less spike.

If the Motor is in Top Condition the RB30 has proven time and time again to be capable of takeing Big Boost and produceing Large Power without many recommendations, but if you want to be safe you can throw in a Cam and some Forged Pistons.

Slicks are a Must.
Diff: it has been seen Many Vl turbos still Retaining 3.45 lsd's but if ur after that little bit more Strength and Torque, u can change to a Mini Spool and u can also use 3.89:1 gears from the Skyline as there much cheaper than 3.9s

My previous VL calais turbo setup had a very similar Setup but some of the Fuel Gear Slightly smaller, and was Done at Bresciani, the Car Produced a 12.1 @ 111 Mph on a very low boost of 14 psi with a quick tune before hitting the track on its first ever pass. [url]

Catch Can to allow more boost with less spike?

err.. isnt a catch can used to catch the oil that comes out the breathers, then return it to sump, rather than it spraying all over the motor?

'Catch Can', seen as though its called that it only catches the oil that is blown by the rings from some serious boostin' so rather than feeding it back into the intake (as factory setup is done) u get a catch can and that way its not throwing ****ty oil back through your intake preventing a good mix of fuel/air
When ya catch can fills up, your in trouble usually unless u havent emptied it for a year or two

Something sturdy. Lower it say 2.5" and run poly bushes in the front and most of the rear (usually use rubber for upper control arms, and lower to allow a little give)

yeah well done flawless. would definitely recamend forgies or atleast a rebuild with some ACL pistons, rings, barings etc. As FLWLSS said not essential but definitely recomended if you want a car that will out live the winter. Depends on boost levels though i guess.

i would say around 250kw at the wheels but your standard auto would probably strugle at 180kw or even lower. a major hi flowed t3 will give you this much power as long as youve got a good fuel setup (injectors and fuel pump) because again standard stuff is probably only good for 180kw. then of course you will need an aftermaket computer aswell. some times i think people on this site underestimate how fast an 11 sec car is but it definatly is quite achivable with a vl turbo. like people have already said you can do it on the cheap by buying second hand parts from the forums on this site

RWKW's means nothing, a car with 200rwkw is capable of a high 11 sec pass, it all depends on the setup on the car, accelaration, how fast you can get to that power level, not how much power you can get.

Um, hi 11's with 200rwkw in a vl????

Ah, ok, maybe with no interior, lexan windows, fiberglass pannels and alot of faith....

Or, if u really want 11's, buy a datto 1600 with 200rwkw, you'll get there alot easier.

if you read closer he never said it was a VL. all he said is 'a car' with 200rwkw could do 11 sec.

DONT ASK : you have no idea, go back to playing with your toy cars.

rwkw means **** all as to what a car will run down the track, rwkw is just the cars maximum power output on a dyno. and also my last car had 200rwkw and pulled a 12.1@111mph with traction loss, full interior, and all calais options. like i said its all in the setup the car has running, how fast it gets to this MPH not how much power the car can over all make.

Mmmm, ok yeah i'll go back and play with my toy cars then FLWLSS, cause u know everthing and i dont know sh it.

The way u word stuff is unclear and i just assumed that since we are on a 'vl' forum, and u were explaing how to get a 'vl' 2 run 11's, that you'd be refeering 2 a 'vl'.
My appoligies if i mis-understood u...

Anyway, now that i've cleared that up, i agree that rwkw is just a figure on a dyno sheet that is really only for bragging rights, or in some cases, it's actually used for on-going tuning purposes (but mostly bragging rights; re. to peoples sig.).

My view is prob. pretty similar to yours, although i'd word it a bit different, or clearer:

"horsepower sells cars, torque wins races"

A car with a nice even torque spred IMO will always cross the line quicker than one with a high peaky power figure that can only start to move over 4500rpm, especially on the street, and it will be a sh it load more fun to drive either way.
Of course, there are many cotributing factors as to why each car runs a certain time, not just power/torque. Thing like drivers skill, weather condition, track condition, weather u had a toss the nite b4 (jokes), etc etc.

Cool, well im off 2 play with my toys.
