GMH-3OL. Red VL Calais Turbo

GMH-3OL, John's VL Calais Turbo


This is Sydneysider John's Red series 2 VL Calais turbo. The car has recently been tweaked by Mario Rehayem in Kogarah, Sydney with the help of his cousins the Rehayem's at Pac Performance. As you can tell from that pretty big cooler sitting bnehind the front bar, a lot of work has gone into this car already to transform it into a beasty rb30et.


He has had the standard turbo hi flowed to T04 specs which is a common, but very good mod. John has let me know that this will be upgraded however, in the not too distant future. The intercooler is a custom item from Pac Performance. Piping runs from the turbo to the intercooler, and from there it goes into the standard plenum which has had a outlet on the drivers side of the motor made, meaning that he can run far shorter piping.


To make the piping fit, he has removed the standard battery and replaced it with a very expensive Odyssey unit that is half the size of a normal one, but does the job twice as good at the same time.


A Microtech MTX8 computer has been installed to tune the car to let it roar. This controls Bosch 600cc injectors. This is fed from a big Bosch fuel pump and surge custom tank to feed the fire. The last link in the chain in a Malpassie Fuel Pressure Regulator.


On the other side of the turbo, the exhaust is a 3" item which leads to a 3 1/2" muffler which is reasonably loud (as you would expect).


Out the back is a LSD, as you would expect, and this bolts up eventually to the VX SS rims, which are frequently turned considerably faster than the speed of the car in first and second gears.


The head and bottom end are standard for now, and this is likely to stay for a while.


A test run at the Eastern Creek raceway led to red beast clocking 13.5 @ 101mph as you see it, with street tyres. Off take-off again the car doesn't hold it's power to the ground causing slow 60ft times, thus the 13sec bracket not being broken. The next run will involve M/T slicks.


Future additions include 4:11 diff ratios, the bigger turbo as mentioned and some good ol' M/T slicks.

yeah i have rolled the guards, neatly cut away excess panel on the rear quarter of the guard, and it still rubs when im the only person. the car is really now a 2 seater!

i was thinking of shaving/machining the drum on the disc a few mm's, and maybe a slight machine on the rear FRs centre backing... not over the top but. those few mm's should make a big difference though.

There are a lot of dodgy panel beaters around, so finding a good one is not always that easy...
