RB30 in Gemini

Just wondering if anyone knows somebody thats done this that I can get in touch with?

I read somewhere that the firewall had to be cut out a little and the driveline tunnel had to be bashed back a bit aswell.

A mate has approx 95hp at the wheels and that little thing cruises, my n/a rb30 has got 117. Give that a few mods and its a rocket.

Just curious.

Best to go more with the motor that's more designed to go into it (i.e. 4 cylinder) or a motor that will fit (i.e. Holden V6).
Someone fitted a Holden VR v6 into a Gemini,it had high compression pistons and later he wanted to supercharge it,imgine what a weapon that would be.
The RB30 is a good engine but isn't a really good choice of engine for the car it's going into as it it too long and I would imagine there would be many issues with the strength of the suspension (i.e. springs),suppose it depend on if you want to register it as people do fit 202's into them (don't know why),like in the case I hear of people fitting 350 Chev V8's into Nissan Bluebirds, there would be major issues there with the suspension and I heard a bloke who was in our local auto parts store a few years back discussing how he was doing that conversion, there was major cutting, welding, etc of the structure to make sure the car would handle the torque,a good conversion in a car like that would be choice of the Nissan fours (i.e. FJ20,CA18,Z18 or SR20) or the V6 range like the VG20's.

yeah having an rb30 would **** your weight distribution and the overall feel of the car...
although I'll admit i've spoken about it too, not for a gemi but a ke70 corolla...
best bet is like someone already said,ca18det, sr20det or something along those lines...

Yeah I was just thinking about it for a few days until I realised I'd be mad to get rid of the commy.

I saw a v8 on the hotgemini site, looked damn tidy, I do believe traction would be a huge problem.

I read about the rb30 conversion and alot had to be done. Who knows its not gonna happen anyway, all my funds have are gonna be put towards the turbo project now. So, once I get boost the gemi won't even be in my mind.

Seen a RB30et in a Gemini, alot of modifications to floorpan and firewall to fit.

And definately would not pass Engineers reports.

Why build up a Gemini when a standard body VLT will probably eat you on the dragstrip.

So your saying a stock vlt, and a rb30et in a gemi... the vlt would eat the gemi, i don't think so. Power to weight, gemini's are light little suckers and as I've said a mate has one that'd be lucky to have 100horses at the wheels and munches away at alot of cars. Fair enough its alot of work, but when you can pick up a gemi for 1500 and parts would be about as cheap, you've got a heap of cash to spare on the engine / conversion.

Was just a thought, and as I've already said, I'm sticking with my vl.

Sorry I should have mentioned a modified VLT as standard VLT's are nothing to write home about.

You put a mild modified VLT up against a Gemini with a RB30et of the same mods there would not be much differance, the Gemini would aim straight for the wall, really needs a chassis to put the power to the ground.
The car would be too light and over powered.

I could'nt imagine anything more embarassing than going to all the effort to convert a Gemini and getting "Chopped" at the drags by a "Heavy" Calais turbo.

And it will always be a Gemini, You can't polish a turd.

Stick to VLT's and you can't go wrong has the engine legally fitted from the factory and only slight mods will reap you a 12 easy.

What do you think you are invinceable and a race car driver behind the wheel do you.

Are you still on your "P Plates"?

I can't stand "****y" young fellas in modified cars, half of them could'nt control a car. And that's the reason why it's so hard and expensive to get insurance on certain cars when you are a younger driver.

anyway, like vlberlina said,, 2.6 rodeo donk fits right in with no cutting or welding. same design as the original boat anchor that it came out with. if you really want a fast gemi, the rodeo donk is the easiest way to go,.. but then again, a gemi????

Local "clown" (private joke, lol) in town has a 13bt making 280rwkw in a datto 180y. Surely a rb30et making similar power would be similar in a gemini? Although yes, the rb30et would weigh more than a 13bt, similar theory as far as a drag car would go...

Just tub the *******.

This weeks Melbourne Trading Post has a TF Gemini for sale set up for a RB30.

The ad . page 89 CARS Hot an Custom.

Holden Gemini TF unfinished project to suit RB30 engine. VL turbo motor. VL turbo diff. Full Commodore stud pattern. Vt front brakes. Chassis bracing. Alloy dash. Autometer gauges. Reg GEM-JET.
$3,500ono. (03) 9357-7587 (0425) 775441 Cambellfeild.

Good buy for someone wanting a coffin on 4 wheels.

Sounds like alot more work would be required on this baby to be complete and I highly doubt engineers reports would be obtained due to firewall modifications.

Good Summernat's car.
