BT1 Myths and Facts Thread

Just thought I would start a thred about BT1 facts and myths.
For this to work we will need lots of input from people that know from experince.
Things that I would like to cover are

Colours (ie absnith, blaze, alpine, lightblue) and there states of origin.

Bumpers Colours ( asteriod ,MX, dark metalic blue)

Options ( power steer, air ccon, Turbo ,NA, manual , auto)

And anything eles that you can think of.
And pics, old and new.

In my opinon the BT1 ( or the VL TURBO)is now turning into a 80's muscel car.
And as time goes by it will become hard to know what was what.

So hopefuly this thred may shed a light on some of those questions.

Great idea

Engine: (since this is in the turbo section) turbo 6, but avail with n/a 6 or V8

Colours: mainly white, yellow or blue but many other colours were made.
white is the main NSW colour, yellow main Vict colour

Bumper colours: MX grey

Trans: autos in NSW, manuals in Vict, unsure of other states

options: based on SL but fitted with BT1 (police) pack.
some appear to have had air cond fitted, many had no power steer.

BT1 pack: sump guard, upgraded wiring, 4wds, 15" silver painted rims with centre caps, calais interior light, front door bins, ashtrays front and rear, trans cooler on autos, many had l/r fuel tank fitted, unique BT1 instrument cluster, .....

I had a beige BT1 '88 n/a six auto, standard fuel tank (with gaurd) and it had just the same old SL Tacho dash which was optional the speedo incriments were no finer than the regular tacho dash from memory.

Hey Russ which state do you think mine came from most likely?

Not sure if you got a good look at the colour the other night but it's the metallic mid-blue kinda colour, I don't know the name of the paint code.

It's an NA 6 Auto, power steering, air con, sump bash plate, aerial thing on rear qtr, and about 20kgs of extra wiring. I've been told it was an ex-detectives car but no idea if that's accurate or not...

Myth - no such thing as a VL BT1 with a "cop chip" - except the ones under the seat of the potato kind

Russ, just to clarify a few things in that 'BT1 pack' list that you have... it seems that you have a few optional BT1 extras mixed in with the standard BT1 extras. i.e. all had 4 wheel disc brakes, 15" rims, calais light and ashtrays in the front, but not all of them had sump guards and long range tanks. Also what is unique about the instrument cluster, apart from it being a tacho dash on an SL?

Nice work guys thanks for the quick responses.
Try to keep the thred striaght forward so it can be used as a tech guide.

My cars Fact-( the fist 2 where owned by me in the 90's and where pretty OG

FIRST BT1 1987 Absnith, Dark metalic Blue bars (orig ?) no power steer, green sump (orig ?) 63L tank.

SECOND BT1 1988 Absnith, MX grey bars, no power steer , Long range tank (silver not paint black) holes drilled in door bins, police fequencies on the inside of the glove box lid.

THIRD( current) BT1 1988 Yellow Blaze, MX grey bars, no power steer ,no air ,long range tank.

Read on the forum that blaze yellow cars come from QLD can anyone comfirm this?

I think by the looks of thing only 88 BT1 had long range tanks( Have also seen a OG NA 88 with long range tank)

myth - if u own a bt1, thats the ultimate collectable among the vl/turbo range, and also theyre faster!

fact - people pay more for standard bt1s than a mint calais turbo......

some facts are just so hard to understand lol
