Jess' VL "KITTEN"

Name: Jess

Location: Launceston, Tassie

Age: 21

Car: 1987 VL Berlina

I brought the car in 2004 looking like this:

My only requirements were that the car was sedan, had a grey interior, and was an original 5 speed.

I drove it around like that for about a year, then took it off the road to be painted and kitted.

End result:

I've since had the suspension done, and this is how the car sits now:

Details of mods are:

Exterior Cosmetics
Bare metal resprayed Mazda Winning Blue, doors down Aero kit, holographic window tint, aftermarket taillights, window frames and door sills painted gloss black, 18 inch Zenetti Teks on Hancook Ventus rubber, KITTEN personalised plates

Interior Cosmetics
Nothing special yet, will update soon

Suspension
Nolathane bushes all round, lowered on King Springs (super low), Koni off-car adjustable shocks, whiteline strut brace, whiteline sway bar, Nolathane adjustable strut tops

Other stuff
2.5 cat back lukey exhaust

FUTURE MODS

The Turbo future

I brought myself a turbo engine for Christmas (crusty, I know, but most of what you see here will be replaced):

I'm in the process of pulling it to bits with the intent of rebuilding it to be something special. Not much to report here except I've started to pull it to bits.

Other upgrades

Purchased the rear end out of a mate's VL - disk brakes, lokka diff, better axles. I've brought a new 1 inch master cylinder all ready to go, just gotta find the motivation to put it in.

Other goodies are on their way also.

Most cosmetics

I'll be replacing the seats and doorskins soon with a custom interior out of another VL - will post pics once its all in. Figured I'd replace the carpet, underlay, and a few other things while I'm at it also.

------------------------

Basically, that's my car! Its a work in progress, and its not everyone's cup of tea (I know you lot are VL traditionalists) but it keeps me entertained - hope you like it

Seen this car on Street Commodores... Looks mint except a few small things ... A nice dark tint, not a huge fan of that holagraphic tint or what ever you call it lol buts thats my opinion and a nice set of holden wheels... I had BBS wheels on my car... was something a little different but had to go back to a nice set of Holden wheels... Keep up the good work

Woo 2 comments I feel special haha.

The tint was a bit of an experiment, some people like it, although when the new engine goes in I might get rid of it, not sure yet - it can void my insurance so that's a pretty big plus for getting rid of it.

Was debating on what a set of chromed VE SS-V rims would look like actually...

Picked up my new interior on the weekend, no pics yet though, and put a deposit on my new gearbox n bits (thanks Reegan ), sold my stock injectors and have new ones on the way, so there is some progress happening with the car/engine.

Heavy duty clutch - check
R33 5sp manual - check
Rear disk brakes - check
Lokka diff centre - check.

All I need now is the engine...

The interior is now in, the seats make a huge difference, very happy with it. Put new carpet in but its the wrong colour and I hate it so I'll replace that shortly.

Looks good Jess, the tint is pretty cool, because it suits the car. But if it's time for a change then it's time for change.

Goodluck.

Oh, righto.

As I said earlier the new gearbox and everything is in and running well, the diff is a bit of a handful, its ok as long as I've got the power down.

Boyfriend started the car in gear accidently a while back and ploughed it into a metal framed work bench, so I now have a custom dented front. Natural progression means calais front with aero grille, and I'll replace the front bar with a nice new uncracked item in the next month or 2.

New steering rack goes in this weekend, which means no more 100km/h vibration, no chasing the steering wheel and no ****ty left hand cornering!

As for the engine, was inspired over Christmas and removed the sump, pistons etc so now the block is ready to be worked on. Hopefully it wont need to be bored out.

I'll take pics of the new interior, and my front dentage and post up sometime

Thanks guys

Here's a pic of my super sexy dent *sigh*

Dammit. Will post when its all fixed up.

Replaced the steering rack last weekend, made a HUGE difference! So stoked about that.

Didn't realise that the gearbox, being heavier, had slightly lowered the car a bit more, and thrown by diff alignment out (I havent got the guards rolled so every mm makes a difference to my tyres scrubbing), so we fixed that up and I can actually have a passenger now.

Oh well least it's cheaper than say denting the front bar. That to me says something, chuck the piece away and get some pop ups or on ebay that one piece calais look-a-like front for it.....
P.S- where did you get that sexy number plate surround?

Its hard to see in the pic but the front bar is pretty average too. Heaps of crows feet, etc. So I'll be replacing that at the same time.

As I said in a couple of posts up, Calais front is on the way

I got the numberplate surrounds off ebay from online performance autos, but they don't seem to have them anymore - might be worth sending them an email asking if they still stock them, cost me something like $15 plus postage.

All the bits arrived for the front just before Easter so I put the days off to good use:

To all you experts out there, how do I get the eyelid bits to line up right? Also, has anyone else fitted up one of these grilles? There's a fairly significant gap between the front bar and the grille and I don't really know what to do about it? Help would be great.

can the bar come up anymore , looks like uve scratched the paint on the guard, so if the bar can come up u might hide that and reduce ur gap between the grille and bar.

The marks on the guard are damage from my last front bar.

The new front bar has 2 bolts on each side of the number plate which go into the reo bar. I'm not sure how I'd be able to get it to sit up more?
