"Better" would be purely open to opinion, I personally have always hated haltechs until the new platinum sport, however after using a few in the past 12 months would put it on par with Autronic, Vipec and in some ways Motec. I'm sure with the right tuner you would be very happy with a Haltech.

Hey kyle, i am in the process of building my new motor, i have decided to go with spool rods and mahle 20thou forged pistons. I was originally goin to choose the popular CP pistons however i was told that unlike mahle pistons CP's do not have anti friction coatings! I dont know if this is vital for a motor that will be seeing 350 - 400rwhp.
My question is what head gasket thickness will i need to use if the pistons are said to give a 8.5:1 CR? Also what do you think of permaseal MLS/R headgaskets?
Also if use a GT3582r at what rpm will i be seeing full boost?
I will be using a standard head with say a crow cams stage 2 cam, acl race series bearings, arp mains studs and 1/2inch arp head studs(is standard size head studs sufficient?)
Motor will be running pump fuel.

Thank you heaps
Dimi

Oi line there is kits on ebay, or get a local performaqnce shop to make something.

SM4, there are dozens of VL's around here with them, great ecu and top 3 available imo.

hi kyle very informative thread thanks i did not read the whole lot so i appoligise if its been covered already.

I have noticed that the waste gate location on your rb30 vl mannifolds are not direct in line with the exhaust flow, im keen on buying one however when i haved fab my other mannis my self i tried diffrent locations for the gate mounting. And had boost controll issues till i placed the mounting plate direct in line with the flow path.

Mainly this was used for rotaries only and my boosted performance was only with theses motors is this a issue with piston powered motors that you have found or is the location not important vs fitting all the gear next to the motor ?

cheers in advance

take the head off, get it cc'd.
measure the piston to deck height.
see what pisons are in it, might not be stock.

grab a few compression formula's and imperial/metric convertors and punch numbers in.

usually a 1.5 -2mm is a ballpark.
