**** Mitch! Bad burns?

Maybe grab yourself led work lights for that kind of thing - halogens are just far too hot.

ha, im on the endone atm so all is well. ill get some fedback about the burns monday, but until then ive had a few friends step up to help which is awesome and as soon as i've got even 1 hand back ill try to get back into what i can.

atm im trying to stay optimistic and keep focusing on what i can do like arranging new hoses and fittings, rim blasting polishing and paint and the like. essentially parts gathering. its not so much a set-back just yet... just means everything will be a bit more last minute and i might be on the cruise route instead of the burnout pad.

thanks for the well wishes guys. and yeah tim ed worklights for sure! anyone want some halogens cheap? ill be a bt nervous at best working around them or fuel again i think.

pics on progress (small though it may be)

upon pulling the rims off, ive smacked the inner guard and ripped it. the barb of ripped metal has then scraped sections of tyre sidewall and i found the second photo under the carpet inside the car! (stanced life)

fuel rail is making whistling noises so a new FPR was on the cards. sard genuine was cheaper than a new replacement bosch.

still needs plumbing up.

fire damage:

found a few bits and bobe to replace :/
sway bar linkages

hammered tie rod end boots

work table all spread out!

also i got the clutrch slave rebuilt as it was leaking slowly. and a new braided line.

the fire has meant removing the fuel tank and thats revealed a lot of shot fuel hose so while im at it all of the hose is being done as well as a fuel tank flush.

during the wash down and flush:

after a first coat

and fiddling with wiring!

---------- Post added 29-09-14 at 16:14 ----------

and the gore photos before dressings went on. its looking much better now probably some minor scarring on the knuckles.

its back on the groud and running!

you guys will have a little laugh, i pretty much spent the entire day trying to fit and tune the FPR in the end it was 2 little things that threw me. i spent about 20 minutes chasing a broken wire before i realised that the fuse had melted.

and then i spent ages wondring why the idle was rough and the fuel pressure continued to drop regardless f my attempts. and it was no fuel!

hey guys, been a bit quiet on the update front.

First up my burns are all healed and though im a bit more wary now it hasn't scared me off of working on the car.

I've noticed the entire last page of photos have gone pox. is that for everyone or just me?

so last photos the car was up on jacks with fire damage.

heres the fuel tank, just scrubbed paint stripped cleaned then killrust black on top, silver on bottom and a clear coat.

brings up a few dents but it looks a lot nicer.

now in doing the fuel tank those who have been following my builds for a while will know that i like to clean up and seal everything i can under the car and have been doing so bit by bit since purchase.

Havoc:

taping up for spraypaint and bitumen paint

KSHHHH!

drying:

after the undercarriage re-assembly with all new hose i set to the engine bay and catch can. the catch can is hidden up under the front bumper on the opposite side of the vaccum ball. its all enzed sourced push on gear and all black so although its modified to the trained eye it doesn't jump out and dominate the engine bay.

the piping is connected via a nylon t piece under the airbox and then goes through the radiator support with the air con hoses.

---------- Post added 13-01-15 at 16:50 ----------

this is the "Duh" moment when i discovered i couldn't tune my FPR because the fuel tank was empty.

after all of the running issues, I thankfully moved onto polishing. this picture was a very good wash, backed up by an autoglym wax. the paint was pretty good and didn't need much else. I gave it a second mcguires wax once i got it to canberra.

loaded up at wallan.

at Wahring

halfway at the parents farm, SeloXST and I

the cars all unpacked and hidden away new years eve at canberra.

we slept in the shed in swags. small house + we watched the cars. a few cars have been stolen at summernats before.

---------- Post added 13-01-15 at 16:59 ----------

now theres not a tonne of photos of me floating around yet but heres the event rundown.

thursday, new years day, scrutineering and the world record burnout attempt. got to check out the cruise route and soak up the atmosphere a bit before all of the spectators showed up.

getting a photo posted up on the 80's and 90's holden and ford porn facebok page

Friday, hit the go to whoa early and did a tonne of cruising. we also spent a fair chunk of time kicking back and checking out the machinery on show.

all the long sleeves etc for go to whoa

the boys cruising while i sat in the cargo area

saturday was burnouts. i got on the pad and made a crack at it. i was never under the impression i'd take out any places however i did perform 2 consecutive 360's before performing an excellent figure 8 all in a very small pad without damaging the carQ

i must admit though a guy just before me had made a biiiiiig tip in and smacked the wall straight up so my tip in was lacking. mind you its very very long. and i did stop and throw it in reverse at least once.

hey we can't all be pro's

not sure when this was but hey thumbs up for cruising

---------- Post added 13-01-15 at 17:03 ----------

Now the best for last.

I met a couple of the VL guys which was great but amongst all of the "thats stock what a POS" and "take ya grandma's car home" there were a couple of blokes who made an effort to say hi or who really loved the car and that was really heartwarming after the yaears and all of the crap the car has gone through. a few positive comments from those seeing it in the skin was also nice as most vl guys in melbourne don't care if its not a calais or a bt1.

I actually had a rep from street machine magzine aproach me on thursday saying he would like to have the car shot and featured in his magazine. the boss had sent hi to look for street sleepers. my first response was "nah don't worry about it mate its only 150kw atw." but when he said thats fine i explained all of the other mechanicals, the 16,000km on engine and less on everything else, the diff brakes suspension, fuel system etc etc etc and all of the oem parts used to spruce up the interior and his mouth dropped. so hey could be in a mag sometime soon!

good to here about the injuries being healed up.

while it may not be a typical magazine cover spec featuring show car, it is definitely worthy of a feature somewhere in the mag

love the burnout photos with the stockos on the front and the simmons on the back!

well evidently i dont actually do anything to the wagon.

some may remember bryan Taylor from these forums who had an ice blue berlina with an aerotech interior and some momo status 18"s.

well i know i bloody well remember him.

those momos? theyre now on my car! so now all that is left is the interior boom

well guys. this is a first....

I've "finished" building a car!

it of course still has small stuff to iron out but they always do.

My custom interior journey started properly in December 16 after my GF walking out on me in September / August.

Finally for once in my life I had some stability and some cash to bring the custom interior to fruition.

It was finalised a few weeks back and saturday was it's first outing.

Final interior specs as follows

Walkinshaw steering wheel (genuine with Holden Part No.)
Calais S2 dash cluster (km matched)
Calais s2 air vents
A9Y Calais Wagon rooflining
Calais plush carpet (looked at aftermarket ones wasn't happy)
3 piece venetians. cargo one is slider type not screw in.
cargo trims are carpeted. these are mystery trims that came with an A9Y interior years back.
front seats are HSV Devourish. these particular ones started life in a VR GTS.
rear seat was meant to be VN HSV LE wagon but ended up being a standard wagon rear seat. It was modified to a 2+2 style with the VN HSV headrests added and a fold down armrest from a berlina sedan.

the doortrims are a mashup of SV88 and Walky styling.
The insert trim is VP GTS however I've found that it was also used in Camry's Lexcen's VR Clubby and I think the VP 50th anniversary models.

I still have to do something about the shifter and boot and add in a Berlina or Calais tape deck.

and the car itself

Great work.
Please fix pictures.

Sorry to hear about the relationship.

Totally agree, they are always near complete - never finished.

Cheers
