2000RPM problems

Hi all,
On my new to me VL calais S2 87, when I hit 2000RPM it just dies (i dont think the engine turns off but you cannot accelerate) and you can not accelerate till i goes back down to about 1500RPM. . . ?? Ive heard that it could be the AFM becuase the ECU has some feature that if there is a problem with the AFM it wont let it rev over 2000?
Help please.
Thanks,
Josh

Also, I have another NA manual VL, which is a LOT LOT faster than this auto one (soon to be manual) .. is that normal for the auto vl's to be terribly slow?

Air flow meter, clean the plug with wd40 or crc. If its still crap try another air flow meter

And yes, stock auto vls are very slow

Check to see if the PWR light turns off, that's been happening to mine recently and wont let it rev past 2k. I just wiggle the leads to the auto computer under the dash till the PWR light comes back on, and it's all good again. I'll fix it properly one day......

It will be the AFM for sure - when it stuff up basically it tells the ECU to go into limp mode so you cant cause any permanent damage due to poor mixtures etc.

Either clean it or replace it

alright thanks guys. Also the bloke that said it could be the PWR light. . well yeah I wiggled the wires around and it fixed itself up. . I am still replacing the AFM i have a few spares around anyway :P

Also, for the manual conversion does the ECU still go under the dash becuase in my 87 VL exec (manual) the ecu is behind the passenger kick panel. . ?

two different computers mate, the one under the dash soley controls the automatic trans. When you convert to manual just unplug it or remove.
