re - best exhaust system

For a SOHC 3 litre VL, pacemaker extractors , going to a 2.5 inch hi flow cat , then onto a mandrel bent 2.5 inch straight through system such as a redback.

I used a 3 inch cat on the twin cam engine and the mentioned exhaust system without a resonator and that was plenty for even that engine.

i was very happy with a set of wreckers yard extractors ($50 and they pop up a lot) and a 2 1/4 exhaust (150 second hand, thought it was vl turbo at the time but was just a 2 1/4 not a genuine turbo one. probably could have been had for a little less $)

i didn't have a highflow cat or one that had been smashed out but i did have a bmc highflow airfilter. made a huge difference. so for a touch under $300 that was my system on my n/a.

i find the 2.5" a bit big and it takes out your lower end power in a stock rb30.... if its just an exhaust and a filter go for a 2 1/4

for power out of a na... hang on no wait, you cant get power out of a na
nah.. your best bet dude would be a full ehuast system (check)
Cold Air intake with ducting into the air box
advance the timing (run it on 95 or 98)
manual conversion
LSD/mini spool
run some injector cleaner through it
XF throttle body
Do a big service
Thats all you can do without it getting expensive (internals, raising the compression and a new cam... polishing a turd with a N.A)

Also, my car did a 16.2 at the drags single spinning 205s with almost all of the above mods.
Now, with a LSD and grippys 20" tyres with a good launch i think id see a high 15, just to give you an idea.

Best value for money would be to turbo it..
For an NA I'd just get it running perfect, extractors and 2 and 1/4 catback, cold air intake, maybe advance timing a bit. Basically what I did and went alright for what it was and cost next to nothing.
Stepping up I'd Change the diff gears(maybe consider and LSD or spool) and chuck a manual in and if you want auto get a shifkit I guess. Then go on to headwork and other engine mods..
Depends on what you want out of a car and what your willing to spend.
