In its condition and only being a 'base' model I wouldnt go over the top with an offer either. Its not worth huge dollars. Would be a nice little find though if you intended on restoring it.

A HDT is worth more with a carby 304 than a RB30, you would be able to sell the low kay driveline off and have a five litre five speed with bilsteins, polarizer and build plaque not to mention a Brock that sounds like one.

A HDT is only worth more with a carby 304 if it came from the factory with the carby 304. If the the engine numbers dont match then the tags are worthless and its just another vl.

It needs to stay original for it to be worth anything

spot on mate! it wouldn't be worth a bowl of **** with a different engine. people would see it as just another v8 that's been hammered. if its a 6 with matching tags it would be completely original and worth ALOT more to collectors and enthusiasts.

As a n/a its in the same class as a 7G Nitron.
Group A 5.0 replicas are pulling 22G
If you supplied reciepts for an HDT worked over black 304 with roller rockers, cam,HDT chrome, zorst you would get more than your money back.

i see the point of a 5speed 304 BUT.... the car is worth more standard than modded and any mods need to be done with the thought of returning the car to stock in mind.

if you want a 304 brock but cant buy a real one you would be better to buy a burgundy / grey interiored sl v8 / auto and stick an ebay hdt build plate on it. less people would call you a knob and someone who appreciates the sandown for its rarity will own it rather than someone who wants to put a different engine in it and sell the matching numbers block.... now selling a matching numbers block is just unthinkable. especially if its a fine block.

OK, this is my opinion and the figures i use here are example purpose only!!!

1. If you get this car to tip top condition and leave it totally orig. you would get 10-15k

2. If you get this car to tip top condition and put a tuff 304 in it. you would get 10-15k maybe a touch more

Now lets go behind the scenes abit

option 1 would cost you 3-6k

option 2 would cost you 5-8k

Basically if your planning on getting good money back without spending as much stick to option 1.
If your planning on enjoying it and you like the sound grunt of an 8 go with option 2.

What ever you chose to do (if you get it) Theres always gonna be an extra tag/id plate on your firewall so you can go to sleep happy!

You cant compare this car or any HDT to a nitron, a nitron has NO HDT ID PLATE, fair enough its a limited build of 150 but its NOT a BROCK COMMODORE

They are the 15's on the Nitron. That Nitron on ebay is worth bugger all, no polarizer and wrong horn pad etc...

Anything happen with the Sandown???

4 years on and the lady has called me about the car. Its been in storage for 2-3 years and she just happened to stumble across my details. She's asking a fair bit for it and I don't think im prepared to part with that sort of money. She tells me it was built specifically for her by Peter and was delivered as a subdue model and badged as a Sandown. It does have a HDT build plate. From Fast Lane.

What's she asking? Being white and the paint looks in good condition a good cut and polish will bring it up mint. Get a proper detailer to go right over it, cut and polish inside steam clean etc engine bay etc and it would be easy to make some coin on as long as she's not asking top dollar for it.

Pay what you think it is worth to you,If it is not enough(for her) you might have to flag it.Nice to own some thing with a bit of history,Does she have the original papers on which they custom ordered for them selfs??Another thing try being honest to her saying that you are wanting to keep it,Not trying to make a dollar out of it.Returning it to original condition will mean it will aways be worth something, not huge bucks but something..Good luck and I hope you get it!!(nice find)What does the build plate say??If it does not have HDT on it then all it will ever be is a VL with HDT bits on it(dealer fitted)

Cheers Marty
ps if the build number is after 4246 then it will be post Brock

I would low ball for sure. It might be a rare HDT model but it isn't a very desirable one, and it's not in good condition.
There's no profit to be made by fixing it up and selling, but if you plan on holding onto it for your own enjoyment and just cruising, I'd go 8K absolute max. That's assuming it actually runs and you can get it to a good standard without pouring to much coin into it.

I think people are more interested in matching numbers when it comes to 180kw 5.0 motors from HDT not nissan RB30's that are the same as the ones in your ebay excecutive as Brock owners don't like it when the V8 has been swapped for a 120kw LV2 and the original block has gone walkabout.
