LS1 conversion thread?

Wondering if there's a thread on an rb30 to ls1 conversion or; how similar is it to the efi 304 conversion thread?

Just looking into rb30et/ls1 conversions and want to weigh up overall costs. As well as power output. And what gear as in which box etc to use.

I'm fully farmiliar with the turbo conversion but only just starting to look into the v8's.

Budget is around 10k. A little more if needed

^^ I wouldn't doubt that. There's always little things missing.

However I just got offered a 180 rwkw rb30 for 2 and a bit grand off a mate so can't pass that up.

Cheers for the help. All the best guys. Hope it works Out as the ls1 should be a pretty good match. It should be putting out 200 odd rwkw shouldn't it?

My ls1 conversion cost a little more than 10 g I think, tailshaft was a Vl v8 shortened and the Vl clutch master needed to be denoted so it pushed more fluid

Im just about to fit my motor and also turbo it... I will be putting up picks and a complete step process in my thread i already have... The setup of putting the ls1 in isnt as costly as you think if you are doing alot of it your self.... Are you wanting it to be n/a or turbo?

Best conversion money can buy.

My LS1 turbo'd VL made 662hp on 12psi through the 2spd glide.

Stock motor, valve springs and comp cam. Don't know about you, but beats any build RB motor.

What needs to be done on the wiring side of things guys?

I know there is a guy on Ebay who does the harness's his name is Killalux or something like that for about $450

So apart from the modified harness and the ECU for the LS1 is there anything else needed i.e. getting the dash to all work?

Good luck getting the dash to work.

You will need an aux output, I'm using a V8 dash but running a V500 ECU so mine works, warning lights, oil pressure works and voltage, coolant want work, different sender.

It's not as easy as just typing this post but well worth the effort.

DA HOON, mate trust me it sounds better than a N.A V8 when it's on boost.

Yeah been considering just buying new gauges instead of trying to get the old dash to work.

Pulp, kirt you know I hate that fuel, why use it when its only going to shorten the life of the motor.

But to answer your question, struggles to make 440hp on 8psi due to heat and pinging (hi-comp)

Plus pulp fuel is boring, E85 not only preforms, its smells good for the ladies.

yeh boyz, ls1's into vls is where its at. got one goin into my project car soon once its painted. will update my thread page when its around to that stage, still finishing off a few EPIC body mods i wanted to do. Going fairly stock ls1 for starters - wanted to go ITBS but cant be engineered so. Wana be able to role past dem coppas an it be untouchable also good that when stock, there quite economical as well. Yeah im in the same situation, want it all blue plated in QLD without any dramas. I really want to put a huffer on it but the book says it cant be done (weight:cubic inches when forced is too much in QLD) so will just go for a nice cam instead.

Umm no mine is mod plated with turbo, glide and LS1, even my fuel system is ticked off.

It pays to know the right person when getting ticked, I use Randal a local legend in mod plates here in brisbane.

However an LS1-2-3 in a VL with cam/springs will still be better than a built RB, in my opinion.

---------- Post added 01-04-11 at 15:27 ----------

Forgot to mention, My setup, the engine in, turbo and all is still 60kg lighter than a RB30t with manual/auto box.

So not only is the conversion easy to make power, but heaps lighter also

Mate im not going to argue it, I have spoke to the guy who does mod plates locally here and he said it's a no go and also advised me to look it up on QLD Transports website.

It can be found here under the "Queensland Code of Practice: Light Motor Vehicles"

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Veh...fications.aspx

On Page 22. For reference they use the heaviest weight, so for a VL 1350kg.

Either way, as you said I guess it pays to know the right people.

What is everyone using for engine mounts? I have read so many conflicting stories on both CAE and CRS products.. mostly saying they are junk and required alot of modification to fit.

Thats true, If you follow the rule book no F-N way you will be able to pass this conversion by correct standards.

(engine mounts) Mine are "Castle hill" and there good as far, not dodge and fit in well.

I was under the impression that the "engine size" for mod plating is a "recommendation" - ie, not a "must"...
