Who would have thought that driving a nice car would turn into being a crime?

I pay 48% income tax, I pay 10% GST, I pay $500 every year just to have my car on the road, and I pay rediculous insurance prices, yet you still can't ****ing have a peaceful drive without stressing some lovely Police Officer is going to pull you over, fine you, and slap a nice Canary on your car - ALL BECAUSE YOUR CAR IS A LITTLE LOW, OR YOUR AIR FILTER ISN'T STANDARD.

Someone help me, cause I just don't understand?

unless they get cops from else where in i dont think that you will have to worry about Albury, the cops are pretty good with cars, i live there so i know.

Word of advise though, DO NOT speed through Albury on the highway, especially through north Albury because there are spots where there are always cops and you will get done.

Cops on the way to the nats are out for anything. Read street machine mag (march 02 If i remember correct) and you will find a full page write up of what happen to me (goulburn / marulan). This year they went to a different area (rest station outside of lake george) and I and 3 other nats entrants drove straight by coz the area was full (at 6 am). Needless to say the entire rest area had their heads turned to us watching us drive by. No doubt they send a car after us.... we pulled into next rest area (off highway) and chilled for 30 mins. Cops another 10km up the road (prolly for us) had pulled over someone else.
My advice-
* either drive there between midnight and 4am OR
* put it on the back of a truck with no rego stickers/plates on it OR
* have a ****load of engineers reports, 100% confidence in the legality of your car and a whole lot of balls!

I don't know what the rules are in NSW, but what can they do to a car on a trailer? are we allowed to take off/cover the plates? and can they check it and defect us if it's not on the road?

so if your from QLD do you have to comply to NSW rules while down there holidaying? Cause pretty muc hanything goes in QLD in terms of engine mods. Suspension is still restricted.

I agree with driving up in the cover of darkness. Have down the trip twice lately, first time in the day light and saw cars with huge tubs and slicks sitting on the side of the road. Owners had given them a run along the straight highways and got pulled over!!!

Last year drove through the night and didnt spot one police car.

Both times travelling from the Gold coast

Sounds like night time's the time to go. Risk falling asleep at the wheel for the sake of not getting a Canary - I think it's worth it!

i agree night time is good but day time the best time to go because you can see everyone elses cars.

It would be handi to go at night because they cant really see ya mods it would just look like a normail car it might not sound it but hopefully it would look it.

its a chance you go to take i guess!!

Defecting cars on trailers? What a load of sh!te!

I heard that last year cars got ordered off trailers then defected once the wheels hit the ground which is bad enough.

When and where is the summer nats on? Damn interested in going on a bit of a road trip...

How long does it take to get from melb - summernats, driving normally and to the speed limit.

12 hrs? How many Kms is it.... i do around 18L/100 in the VLT on 2/3 city, 1/3 freeway.

summernats is in canberra, usually the first weekend of the year.. unless the first weekend is like the 1st january.. it should only take you about 7 hours to get there..

Summernat's is the best car show Australia has to offer, I go up every year with a bunch of mates all put in for petrol, motel works out cheap and party away, don't know about entering a car though bit of a travel 8 hours of driving with a trailer and car in tow.

Over the years I have always driven up during the day and never seen a modified car pulled up by the coppers, seen a few speedsters and trucks nabbed but that's it.

But if you do trailer your car up I to advise you to cover rego stickers up and remove number plates so as they can't get by mail later on.

You know it's such a crime to enjoy spending money and time on a car these days.

Melbourne to Canberra, about 645k's from Broadmeadows, 6 hrs approx. I used to live in Mulgrave and it would take about 6.5 hrs, roughly sittin on the speed limit,...
