Turbo Conversion Reliability
Basically loooking to get my RB30E converted to a RB30ET. I use the car as a daily driver, so reliability its a huge factor to me.
I want feedback from people who have done this conversion, either in a workshop, or at home. Where there any huge problems going through the stages of this conversion? Have there been many problems after the conversion? Did you get rid of the car because you weren't happy with the conversion? How much did it cost ? (if you dont mine) I've always been looking to converting my car, small factors have been keeping me from doing this, but its becoming a big reality now. Recently i've been leaning towards a whole new car at the end of the year, but i love my VL's and i could easily throw 10-12k at it in december, for turbo conversion, lsd, breaks and paint etc. Which would end up cheaper and probably more satifiying in the long run. But I'm still not conviced of the conversion. |

mate throw the cash at it the numbers your talking i carnt see you having reliability probs.
Ive got 2 atm and one i converted its an old vl sl i put vlt running gear on it all standard stuff and no troubles mate especially as a daily and i use it as a flog car flat out all the way. Dont let small factors get in the way of your dreams mate or thats all they will ever be. Good luck with the conversion its piuss easy dude.

I'd like to know this too, I'd like to put the conversion gear (exh manifold, turbo, piping, cooler, oil pump, injectors, computer, etc) on my atmo NA, but I'd like to keep standard NA internals. Bear in mind I'm not after some insane power figure, I'd like to get say 6psi, 150rwrw on the standard CR. Hoping it will be ok for a NA 5speed too, don't really want to fork out for the turbo box. NA box will be rebuilt tho, and I'll go for an LSD.

I've done the conversion, not yet complete, still running the n/a diff n auto, but I'll get around to it soon. All bolt on engine stuff inc. turbo pistons and injectors. No reliability issues at all so far, its been about 6 months on 15psi. I've got a cooler n exhaust though. Do it properly i guess and there is no reason at all, that you would have any more reliability issues than a factory vlt.

i ve done the conversion, n/a bottom end and head... bolting on all the turbo stuff.
its got 600*300*76 fmic, pod, 3 inch exhaust and hiflow cat. it has run without missing a beat unitil 2 weeks ago when i did a service, now having some trouble with it. it runs fine for a few minutes then stalls and wont start. other than that it has run fine, daily driver on 9 psi no problems at all.

yes, standard n/a motor with turbo gear bolted on.
trans is std turbo jatco, its in ok condition slips a little, i got 2 trans coolers on it one big one and one medium one, both located up front in wheel wells, good position. 8/9 psi with hybrid style cooler and optimax fuel. the conversion is easy. i am no mechanic, very little knowledge of cars and i did it, with help from my bro who is a mechanic, he just told me what to do and how to do it, he was busy working on his own car. any other questions, i am happy to answer.
