Project 28th

Alrite basically, i took out a 4 grand loan, to buy a vl calais. sale didnt work out, so ive decided to put the 4 grand into my vk exec-calais. thing is, i want to be coming out on the 28th to the ct cruise, so that gives me less than 2 weeks to do everything i want to do. its gonna be real tight, and i doubt i will do it, but im gonna give it a good shot, so my car looks up to scratch with all yours.

My vk, is basically a heap. its got schmick vk calais interior, which is the best thing about the car. so i dont have to do anythin to the interior, apart from fixing up a few wiring problems. Under the bonnet, is basically a stock vk, got a recond engine, which has done less than 50,000kms. and its got a sports exhaust, but apart from that, nothing. and also on the outside, it looks terrible. paint job is a wreck, its the dark green colour, and it seems to be a terrible colour for holden, cause every dark green vk/vl ive seen, has terrible faded paint on the bonnet/roof/boot. and mines no exception. so heres basically the check list that i will have hopefully have completed by the saturday. even if i have to have a week off work, i will try my hardest to do it. any help from you all would be much appreciated, places which u know are cheap, and good. or extra ideas u mite have for the car.

im hoping to have:

* A new paint job, thinking of probly the same colour, cause its pretty nice, and that way, i wont have to do things like the engine bay, doors etc. but to do a paint job, i will probly have to get 2 new doors, and a new boot. (ones i have r pretty ruined.)
* new exhaust, as the one i bought a month ago has completely rusted
* extractors
* fix all the wiring (sound system cant connect, not enough wires)
* install my head unit
* install my subs and amp
* install a holley
* and possibly worked cams.
* not sure about mags yet, mite see if i can get some VYSS, or VXSS mags. but not sure if the money will allow (if not, im sure stockies will be good for the nite anyways lol)
* im also gonna try and make a custom boot (if time allows for me to do it)

i know its gonna be tough to do it all, but im gonna give it a shot. if its not done, i will be at the cruise in a mates car for sure, but hopefully u will see a fairly nice vk on show.

once again, any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

yeah good points, its one of those ***ced situations where ya have no idea wat to do. the vk i have is real reliable, and i dont wanna go buying a vlc for $4000, drive it for 2 months, and have it die on me. if i could find a car soon, that would be awesum, but its hard to find a nice one for 4k

how much would you get for the vk?

4k can buy you a very nice vlc if you look, Nic_S's was ok and he ended up selling for $2800 with rego.

not much mate, just cause of the paint, it scares ppl off. mite be able to stretch $1500. total max though. and thats pretty far off i reckon, closer to 1k i think. wouldnt sell it till after though, i need her to get around. so 4k is the limit for the car at the moment. plus, i want to calais interior out of it. could get a fair bit of money for it i think. got everything but the carpet, and the roof.

Sit on the 4 grand basically. Just wait. If you can find a VLC with a good paint job and straight body then you wont need to get it painted. Just cut and polished.
Ive had my calais for over 5 years and its still not finished so everything takes time.

keep looking

Hey mate I'd definately wait, I used to own a VK and I'm so glad I didn't waste my time spending money on it. Similar situation to you but decided on a VL. The engines in the VL's are far superior so even if you had to get a berlina you would still end up with a much better car. You'll find a good one for 4k if you look longer enough. Good luck dude. and if you find a Berlina with the same colour interior you could put you Calais interior into it.

Valiants arent that fast mate. When they first came out they were bloody quick but compared to the advances of technologhy of today they arent that quick. (lighter cars, fuel injection etc)
But if your happy with it mate. Thats all that matters.

the e49 is still the quickest aussie production car down the 1/4 isnt it? Or it was at least only a few years ago, only a 6 as well..

Quicker than a Gen3 ? I dont think so. I mean if old cars are quicker then new cars, then why is the fuel ingection ? ellectronic ignition ? Etc. Yes Vt's are larger cars but they are designed to be lighter. Plastic bumper bars rather than large metal ones etc.The brand new SV8 does 14.05 down the quarter. So your talking about a 13 second FACTORY crysler.

if i chuck a turbo in it, it should do 14's down the quarter mile. for an everyday car, thats good enough for me.

hey i tryed to make it as clear as possible that i wasnt 100% sure but i remember being REALLY skeptical then some fact i read convinced me and i was very suprised. Motor magazine did a huge article a while back to find the quickest 1/4 mile aussie car ever built, VT GTS and all that were in there the only non v8 was the 6 pack E49 and it won. Im not trying to start a fight just letting you know what i remember.
And dont the newer v8's do mid 13's? not 14.05?
