a little more info

PRIME Minister John Howard has outlined a $1.6 billion, eight-year program to ease the pain of high petrol prices on motorists.

Outlining a multi-pronged plan, Mr Howard said from today the Government would contribute $1000 towards the purchase cost of new factory-fitted LPG powered vehicles.
The Government will also provide a $2000 grant to the cost of converting cars to LPG for private use.

Mr Howard said LPG would, on the fuel bill for a six cylinder vehicle travelling 15,000 kilometres a year, save around $27 a week or $1400 a year in fuel costs.

Funny you mention that ...

Did you all know the Federal Goverment is bringing a new tax to LPG from 2009

Its set to increase the cost 2.5c per year till there is a 12.5 cent tax on LPG sales.

Funny how he gives out a grant but introduces a tax that will push the price of LPG up and up each year regardless of world price.

Its officially confirmed that its a 2000 dollar grant... According to NOVA 96.9...

Im almost certain its a Trap!!!!! The Goverment is trying to con people into swithing to gas so that in a few years they will put tax on LPG and we start paying prices like petrol... watch the price of LPG go up in the next couple of years....

My 2 Cents
Jim

How can they do that gas doesn't affect emissions.

Ah, but its cheaper now

Also remember to make it cost viable you have to do more than just a year of driving. It can take a good number of years/kms to reap a cost saving.

As the price of LPG gets closer to the price of ULP, the cost benefits are lesser and lesser, meaning the viability of LPG is much less than it was 12 months ago.

Obviously there is a bit of speculation about market shifting and world pricing.
But then who'd have through ULP prices would be where they are compared to 12 months ago.

The excise on gas was ALWAYS coming in, along time before this rebate was offered, like 2 years ago... and it's capped at 12.5 a litre at the end of the rises (in 2012) which is a fair bit better then what's skimmed off the top of normal petrol (around half of petrol is tax)

Plus, the government don't control the price of fuel, the oil companies do

Yes but he still can't make change something like that, lpg is emission free, its like saying John howard could bring the dinosaurs back because he's prime minister.

course theres a catch, the cost even with a rebate is still a lot... plus most ppl dunno **** about cars and still think gas systems are dangerous so it wont be insanely poppular, we're aware of its benefits.. the common person will shun it still.

any cars built after 1986 and on straight gas will not pass an emissions test as it has to be running the fuel it came out from the factory.
