Vl Key Lock Inside Glove Box ??? Wats It For????

Hey Guys
2day i was bored and i thought i should go fix my boot lid opener,
its located in the glove compartment in my calais. wen i got down to c wats happening i found a "KEY LOCK" it was a silver circle and i thought hang on wtf is that for. its located like 1cm of my switch to the left of it
i sliped myy keys and and i couldent get it to turn but then i got the sh1ts becuz i wanted to no wat the key lock is for .....so i drilled the bitch.. i achieved nuthin but if u guys no wtf that is tell me its sort of camaflage so yea but u can c it.. hehehe i had my vl for 7months and look wen i c it

i think that had something to do with a factory imobilizer or something... not too sure, but im sure ive read it somewere else on the site... (check to see if theres wires off it or a mechanical mechanism) if its wires and goes to the comp or under the dash, id say its imobilzer

guess wat after i drilled into the key hole i turned it and nt happened i done a test to c if there was power in boot lid switch then i took of the lamp in the glove box and fiddle around with it now wen i put the lamp on my fvkn horn goes offf and my interior lights got no power. then i tryed to turn the key lock in the glove compartment and now it dosent turn grrrrr.... lol goto now get a replacement i think
fvkn loud horn but so confusing. wen i turned the key it didnt go of until i took of the light in glove box then tryed to put it on again the horn will clik over and go off... hehehe im confused and lost

heheh there is no alarm on my car i just want to no wat triggers my horn it goes of wen there is a flow of power passing threw my light in glove box it go off.
now i got no light in car but thankgod it was not a kill switch i will be in big trouble as i couldent turn the key to it original spot which is back to normal grrrr.....
help me sum1
how i relpace it
how u get that dash offf ??? i tryed but no luk grrrrrrrrr very pissed of person i am after this shuffle

It is the calais factory alarm - touch the two red wires together to disarm it and don't touch it after.

it is the calais alarm switch, and is sh#t when cold it sometimes loses connection, and immobilises, so car just stops as it cuts fuel.
tried to hard wire it but don't want to stuff dash to get to it

ok so how do i undo dash... i already have Kill switch so im ok with the kill so yea just neeed to plug the wire back in and disaarm the alarm so my interior light work

haha get rid of that piece of sh!t factory alarm switch! it causes hell to everyone! when you have it out u will see how crude it really is! when it gets old enough and wears out, it will lose contact on bumps, and radomly, which cuts power to the ECU and the car will stop, and sometimes not start again until the thing makes contact again.

1. take the dash apart to get it out (shouldnt have 2 expalin how thats done). then you'll see 4 wires going onto the switch. 2 pink, and 2 black. disconnect the battery at this point.

2. cut the 2 pink ones off, strip them, twist and solder them together, and put an end plug on them 2 keep exposed wires from grounding.

3. cut the 2 black wires off and crimp them with end plugs SEPERATE of each other.

in doing this you are creating a perminant connection to disarm the over-ride switch, and u wont have trouble with the dodgey lock switch falling apart like they are known to do.

oh and you have just blown a fuse with the interior lights, replace it with a fuse of same rating.

im lucky enough to still have the owners manual sitting in my glovebox (im the 3rd owner) and i too had to read up on what the curious little key barrel was for.

i've got approx 160,000km's on my calais and the factory alarm is still going strong. only thing i've ever had to do is replace the remote battery. loud as all hell too.

Nah, mine actually has 4 buttons, and yeah an LED in the top corner. Panel beaters lost it though so had to pull the whole dash apart to unplug the alarm.
