VL Turbo Out Back Adventure.

Like many, I've done the winter migration dozens of times up North into the desert, just normally in a 4x4. This year I'm mad on taking the berlina turbo.

The Journey is a 2000klms round trip. Perhaps a week of camping and cruising.

My car is 1987 Kimberley Bronze Berlina Turbo Country Pack (246000 kms).
Boost controller, larger injectors, front mount intercooler, 3" dump pipe and exhaust, modified ecu to match, turbo timer
Also brand new rebuilt transmition with manulised body.

It's a Country Pack... so it has the sump gaurd, however is currently on lowered king springs, has a factory tow bar, but wont be towing anything as i expect to use 5-6 tanks of fuel. Only has 65L tank too..... not sure what happened there.

Wish list:
1. Stock Fe2 Country Pack Suspension or better, some Gas Shocks.
2. Bull Bar - check
3. Spot Lights
4. Bigger fuel tank - check
5. Sun Visors / venetians

I'll bring the car to the cruise in May and have love to have a yarn and I welcome any suggestions too.

More lead up photos and trip to come.

Cheers buddy, fingers crossed. I drove it this afternoon for the first time in 9 or more months!! I nearly forgot how to drive a vl.

So gave her a big birthday, new diff, tans, ecu, radiater and oil service.
Might look into a transmition cooler and aloy radiator and catch can.

She still looks like a daily commodore but running and driving fairly good.

If you dont have any luck with finding a good secondhand roobar. I can organise one for you supply and fitted, or just supply only if you like. In alloy or steel.

Driving lights I can help with that too

Regards,

Arie

we took our VLT Calais on a trip through the Pillaga Scrub in NW NSW a few years back, it performed beautifully

it had FE2 and didn't bottom out

that bullbar even being alloy will add weight to the front possibly causing it to dig in more easily, $350 is expensive anyway

Ha yes, I'll come visit your store soon to Arie, do you work Saturdays by chance?

Hmmmm, thanks for your advice aus880, I have a set of Fe2 springs, I'm quite happy to know that now.

Xibitor, I thought $350 is pretty rich too. Is your bull bar similar?

I can't decide, probably a bull bar would look pretty odd on a vlt.

very nice. I had done many trips from karratha down to albany in my ol' berlina wagon.

I've still got the roobar I had on my wags (new owner didnt want it). $50 but the catch is its in Albany and I'm not making a trip up to Perth for another few months.

No modifications required to front bumper to install, uses the same bolt holes as the front bumper and slides in.

All sorted, new timing belt, no damge, little service and shes away again.

Been driving the bronze bullet all weekend. sounds and drives great!
the new transmition (3 speed jatco race box) built by terry at South West Automatic Transmitions, is tuff and tight.

Terry has built it to handle 450kw (I'm geussing I'm only about half way there), I can feel that I have definately lossed some power to the wheels through it in 1st and 2nd gear, and acceleration is alittle bit slower.... Having said that top speed has increased with the different gear ratios, and definately feels and sound s much better.

Collected the bull bar yesterday from Gidgegannup, I'll post pics of the bumper when it's fitted

did 700 klms in the last 3 days, engine didn't over heat, gear box feels amazing, should be up for the trip up north at the end of this month.

Took a couple pics of in Freo this weekend.

i agree, i do prefer silver interceptors or turbo hub caps too, which i have plenty of, just need to make use of these good tyres first.

it is the war memorial...yeah freo and the city has got some neat spots, plenty to see and do that dosent cost alot or is free. good to cruise about and take time to check stuff out, really keen now to head up north, dongara, gero, the barri..... ill stop name dropping as the locals are pretty territory protective....

ah... another pic in the factory

It closed in 1991. Edgar Cooked Perth first serial killer was the last man Hung in the gallows in 1964.
The murals in the cells by an indigenous fella family name Collard are still preserved today and considered a local treasure.

Funny, I'm related to Jack Hume, we could be distant cusins.
