2 strokes are sick fun in the bush, especially for hill climbs and mud thats the majority of what I ride cause we usually go fourbying at the same time/places, they're not as noob friendly for these conditions but IMO can be more rewarding and satisfying. ive grown up riding 2 strokes in these conditions since i could walk and have never ever been at a disadvantage riding on a 2 stroke with my mates who have a mix of 2 and 4 strokes new and old.

If you fall off, stall it all the time, cant get up hills etc its not a problem with the bike being a 2 stroke its just that you suck balls at riding one its really that simple man. in fact its usually my mates with the 4 strokes we end up waiting for cause they have problems with stalling easier and not being able to fire it back up right away... extra flywheel weight ftw tho!

The Redbull Romaniacs event is arguably the hardest bush riding event in the world, you can see it featured on a few of the Nitro Circus Thrillbillies. It's been won a plenty of times by dudes on KTM 300's including this year, and the top 10 is always filled with as many 2 strokes as 4 strokes. Redbull Romaniacs

Anyway heres a pic i snapped a few weeks back of some of the terrain we hit most weekends. I live in a remote area of south western australia where the darling ranges run through with lots of dense bush, huge hills and slippery mud and rocks.

This pic is pretty tame to be honest but it does bend that corner at the bottom and continue down a long way much the same, photo doesnt really do any justice for the angle its actually more vertical and slippery than it looks! Will try get some sweet action shots of some more challenging stuff next time we head out.

Yeah man was dead dry in that second shot so got rid of it, don't usually take photos of much unless in a 4wd instead of on the bike. There's some serious mud pits/hills with dead fourbies people couldnt get back all over the place out there haha always a good sign! Its been nice and wet lately so will get some good shots next time we out!

NZ would have some pretty savage trails hey?

that 2nd pic looks like pickering brook, my old 99 cr 250 had no problem with hill climbs but then again iv never ridden a 4 stroke.. just sounds like the usual argument of between turbo and v8 owners...

abit more maturerity would be nice tho, just because u prefer 4 strokes doesnt mean a decent rider on a 2stroke cant ace u in ur territory, and b4 u say no 1 has beaten me on a 2 stroke, maybe thats because the ppl u ride wit actually cant ride!!

I dont know where your getting the low maintenance bit from
The R has titanium intake valves & Different cam.
The X has a wider ratio gearbox, a milder cam, s/steel valves for longevity, different ignition box, heavier flywheel, electric start and the stator might provide more output (for the lights)

havent been back there in a while but last time i went they had started concreting a fence haha..

found a really clear explanation of exactly why direct injection is such a big deal on 2-strokes, worth watching all the way through!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viWhxvo6DLk

KTM have direct injection 2T bikes in a testing phase at the moment so hopefully not long till we see them in production.

2 strokes grow your balls faster then any other bike.... You need to go fast uphill & downhill to keep them in check and feather the throttle and clutch alot of places as well, but its all worth it because they hit hard like a t51r on an rb30.

X's are fine except the 250's. Apparently their the one's that suffer valve issues.
With my CRF450R I've done well over 100 hours of riding. Just keeped on placing the motul valve expert in with every jerry can. Until now.
Brought the bike second hand & then I wasn't to sure on how many hours it's done.
I was quoted around the $600 mark to replace the inlet valves with s/steel to increase longevity & dyno tune. Which I thought was pretty good for the amount of wicked fun I've had on it.

250's are gay! shim the valvles to every 3 tanks of juice.
450x's arnt as bad but still not crash hot.
im not just talking crap either, i do know first hand.

Thing is you shouldnt have to use the valve expert.
reliabilty is the main reason i chose the '10 KX450f.
ive seen how much punishment they can take without being touched other than oil changes and air filter obviosly.

each to there own at the end of the day!
