Hello, New member, tho been using this site for the last couple years for facts and information. Have been on the hunt for the last 2 years looking for a tidy vl worth spending money on and genuine VL turbo parts, Now it has all finally come together its time to build my dream car. plan is to get it up and running with the turbo, wheels and suspension next, re spray whole car and then will start finding all the small bits and pieces that's missing/not working and eventually end up with quite a tidy vlct.

anyone had there VL painted or can recommend a painter in the auckland area that is reasonable.

I think we have met before....I remember selling you something through Trademe, something to do with VL's of course...

You picked it up from my place in Forrest Hill

I don't personally know of any painters, as I've never had re-paint jobs done on my cars

Sorry, yes your right you got them off me at work.....

There used to be some awesome VL cruises which afew guys arranged, but people were either busy or couldn't be bothered turning up

Alot of guys don't actually have a car they can just hop into and drive either, they are always pulled apart in the garage....Which defeats the purpose of actually having a car

I could get into any of my 3 VL's right now and head off on a cruise if one were to arise.....but I'm still waiting haha

well tidy with no runs and a clear cote , just a closed door respray and the bumbers/trims could go with a re paint as well, ummm would hope it would be under $2500 .....

I bought two universal drive shaft loops off trade me and modified them to fit. I'm no engineer, but managed to cut em up and reshape them a little to fit - all without welding. Certifier was happy with them too. To comply they need to be a certain dimension, which the ones on trade me are. I think you can get em for about $50 each. You will need two.

Here's my front loop - the one that requires the most work:

The rear loop was a lot a simpler, but I don't have a pic. If you have the loop in hand, and the car jacked up, it's relatively simple to work out.

Nice work, were did you mount the rear loop? I have modified an off the shelf unit for the rear, but I am not 100% sure exactly were to mount it as cars with 2 piece drive shafts have a different requirement to cars with a 1 piece drive shaft.
Here is the front unit I built..

Mate, you're just showing off with that driveshaft loop! Very tasty bit of engineering that. Will have to poke head under car to check where my rear loop is, but from memory I think the space is pretty limited so it kinda limits the options. I think if you are looking at the handbrake cable, which kinda forms a Y where the cables veer off to each axle, I think my loop sits somewhere near where the cables intersect.
