Std Rb25 Neo 9.06@151mph

Hey Guys

First time at the track since last Jambo, I have a new car and have started my own performance and tuning shop. Once again i have kept everything pretty simple.

New car and setup are as follows

R32 Gtst weighed in at 3003pounds with me in it
Std rear end running 3.69 S15 diff gears
265/50/16 MT streets
Bodgy G4 china coil overs
DTP motorsport 4 point andra cage
Car is yet to have the cage finished and be tech'd

Unopened Rb25 Neo bottom end - (This is the same engine that i ran a 9.33@153 in my Vc at last years Jamboree)
Slight head porting with 272 9.7mm camtech cams
Rb26 tappet cover
12mm L19 head studs
Tomei head gasket

Plazmaman inlet manifold with 72mm throttle body
1600cc indy blues
6boost Manifold with twin 40mm comp gates
Gtx4508 with 1.0 rear
100hp shot zex single fogger
125mm Just Jap cooler

Tce 5500rpm Converter
Protrans Glide

Haltech Ps2000
Haltech CDI 6 - (Product not released yet, just doing some development work with haltech)
2JZ std coil packs
Race Pack display dash
All the usual sensors

Car went 570hp@20psi and 757hp@30psi on the bottle all tuned on powerplus E85, didn't spend a great deal of time tuning it as i knew the engine was on borrowed time.

I did a couple of practice runs to the 330ft on saturday, first time racing the car with a glide, i didn't go that well but i felt that there was plenty left in the car. The plan was if the launch felt good i'd just run it out. The car ended up going 1.41 to the 60ft and 5.85@122 to half track. Unfortunatley i hurt the engine around the 1000ft mark the car crossed the line on 6 cylinders but the boost dropped 7secs into the run when the head lifted.

Couldn't be happier with the results from the std engine which has now completed it's last race, time for a new bottom end so i can start pushing some real boost into it looking forward to seeing how it goes on the same power for a full run then we'll start creeping up the power.

Massive thanks once again to Kyle from 6Boost, Jamie for the head work and Will and Skinny from Next Up Performance for all the help leading up to the event. As far as we know it's the quickest 25 in the country.

Cheers John

How did you manage to lift a head with L19's?

I take it you put 100+ on the studs and when it lifted the head it pulled the threads? Or did you just torque it as per normal?

30mph in the back half of the track is honking, good stuff. Helicoil the block if you have room and go back out on a stock bottom end

Hoping to use the 32 to promote the new workshop, i wanted to build a VL next but the 32 came up at the right price. The goal was a 8 on std rear end but after how easily it did it on the weekend i'm thinking i might try chasing SLO32's 8.7 which would make it the Fastest 32 gtst in the country. Would be nice to beat his time seeing as he did that time with a 9 inch and 28x10.5 slick

Hey Duke

I've had nothing but issues with this std bottom end and most it comes back to the fact that i tapped the 12mm threads with the engine in the car so didn't do it perfectly. Last time i tried pulling the L19's down past 100ft pulled two threads and damaged two more. As the car ran on the weekend it already has 4 helicoils in the block. I torched a plug due to a minor oversight(this is what you get when you rush before events) and i believe this is what cause the head to lift.

Last year in the VC i picked up 35mph from half track i would have been hopeful for the same result if the head had stayed down. Unfortunately i am retiring the std bottom end i don't really want to be kicking a rod a full track.

Cheers John

I can't wait till you get out there again, awesome work for what was a stock bottom end. RB25's are pretty finacky when you really up them.
