Dirty noisey box.

Hey all,
Have an 88 SL, mf5 speed.

Have an issue that doesn't appear to be a quick issue. When ever the clutch
is engaged (pedal out) there is a loud knocking noise coming from the box.
At first i assumed a throw out bearing, but i am know leaning more towards an
input shaft bearing or similar.

Is that an inherint problem with the N/A boxes? Has anyone had an issue's similar to this?

I am having trouble using the search functions due to mobile e-net, so if
anyone point me in the right direction for a gearbox p[U]lldown that would be great.

Cheers,
Jacob

generally its the input shaft bearing could also be the main or cluster bearing. this seems to be a common problem

How long will it last? who knows, mine took like 2-3 years of abuse, after i did 5-6 runs down the 1/4 and only running 14@101mph the box was whining in 2,3 gears, mind you that was flat shifting every gear

IMO its not worth chucking a bearing in it, just chuck a rb25 box at it

Yeah i have considered it believe me haha
But im throwing a clutch in it a work and hoping that i can adress this issue at the same time. I might duck into somewhere and grab an input bearing before i go to the trouble
