Yes it's been done before but it's a total waste of time and money as the end result is very average

Not much power difference buddy.

I smash any Ecotec V6 of the line but after they slowly catch up. If anything id drop a SV6 motor in with light mods then it will be moving.

For the similar money you could drop an injected 304 and auto in

Don't do it, you'll look like an idiot. Just leave the RB30 in there & turbo it later on.

Ive got a stock vl 5 speed and a stock vs auto and the vl is abit quicker. Dont waste time putting a v6 in.
1st do basic things like filters, service etc

Its a newer motor with bigger capacity, they have the same power as a stock VL turbo, I reckon a VL ecotec would fly and the motors can be bought cheap, squeezing the box underneath might be a bit of a mission though.

ecotec 5spd would fly in a 1300kg vl

the hardest thing would be wiring and u will need a custom tailshaft and gearbox x member. Exhayst may line up.

Let me paint a picture for you

Ecotec V6 - 147kW
RB30ET - 150kW

Then add an aftermarket exhaust

Ecotec V6 - 148kW (now sounds like a dying cow)
RB30ET - 165+kW

Then add an aftermarket intake (intercooler in the RB30 case)

Ecotec V6 - 147kW (now sounds like a dying cow stuck in a vacuum cleaner)
RB30ET - 175kW

V6 = good for burnouts and that's all

don't do it

If you did do it, go a L67 (supercharged ecotec) 168kW from stock, just shy of stock 5L power in the VS. The sound made by super charged V6's is very much a personal choice lol

I like both motors but there is no doubt the eco has plenty of power and is nearly as good on fuel, someone has to build one for sure, chuck in some extractors some of them profile changing rockers with a plenum spacer and the RB wouldnt see which way it went.

So let me get this right, A Ecotec only gains 1kw from a aftermarket exhaust yet a RB30 gains15+, ?????? and then the Ecotec looses that 1kw gain with a modified air intake yet the RB30 gains another 10kw, Not to mention we are now comparing a $600 ecotec to a $3000 RB30ET.

I think it's a good cheap project if your confident to wire it yourself, if not, not that expensive anyway, I say do something different.

I'd run a manual behind the Ecotec, it will sound better behind a manual (no drone with a good aftermarket exhaust)

You should be able to run the std trans/gearbox crossmember, use the front half of the Ecotec's tailshaft with the rear half from the VL.

The K-frame I think would also line up if you used a VS one.

I know the VS V8 one bolts into a VL, along with the trans crossmember and tailshaft as I said before.

Sounds like a great project, and something different, If ya wanted to spend some money on the Ecotec you could make it really fly, I know of a Ecotec in a VT with a baby cam and a shot of nos that'll run a 12.76, You put that in a 1300 kg VL and that would be bloody quick, Still probably not as quick as a RB30ET but still a lot of fun, and something different!
